I think one problem I don’t see people mention is that as more AI slop goes viral, the low effort copy cat nature of most content creation is that more actual people start looking and sounding like AI slop to keep up with the algorithm. It’s uncanny. I’m seeing channels change in real time.

Wow, I'm daft. I've always read Unix-like as Unix-based. Had no idea Unix was proprietary and Apple specifically licensed and is certified Unix, while Linux is just Unix-like. What's even worse is I've always KNOWN that GNU = "GNU's Not Unix", but somehow failed to connect the dots in my head.

One of the things I hated and don't miss in corporate america, is the sync meeting to discuss the topics of the prep meeting where we'll finalize and agree on all the crap we'll present in the official meeting. One annoying thing I hear from my fellow AI skeptics that I don't fully align with is "they've been saying it's around the corner for years but it's still not here." That says and proves nothing. The thing about 'exponential' is that it's mostly never coming until it very suddenly arrives.

Remember in Interstellar where the teachers just casually 'knew' that the moon landings were a myth and it just felt like such an odd detail in the movie. Well... yeah... I see it now. I see just how easy it would be to get to that point. Yikes.

That said, I can thankfully say I haven't burned too much time on things like reddit and bsky. Youtube remains my main distraction, but it occupies a much smaller percentage of my online time than it used to. So there's progress, but I don't know how positive the progress is just yet.

For a few months, I've averaged ~30 minutes of phone time a day, and one week I did 24 minutes the whole week combined. But I've still been online a lot. Right now I have no internet access and my phone usage has spiked. I may have won the war on phone use, but losing the war on internet use.

I hate to admit this as part of the "give linux a try" congregation, but everyone I happen to have personally met who marvels that the battery life is better on linux than windows, also always turns out to use their computer less... so it's like true, but also... lol.
