It felt so right to wrap up the 2 rolls of wallpaper that were draw on, doodled on & where many stories were shared for a special person today. As the last thing I gave them I wanted the message to be clear. Their story is important, they are important & they are worthy of love & kindness #tlsw

Writing a young persons story today & feeling so grateful to all those that have contributed to it. I will never underestimate the bravery it takes to share treasured items nor the care and thought that goes into collating and storing memories for those growing up separated from 1st families π

As we grow and as we understand more, as we meet people and as we hear different stories, what we can tolerate and what we can forgive changes. I do believe that life story work is never and should never be seen as one piece of work and in effect done βοΈ

Both my personal and professional experiences teach me everyday that the term βlife story workβ is not, and should never be viewed as being one piece of work (a life story book, later life letter) or even a planned piece of work that is carried out over a period of timeβ¦.

The greatest learning I gain is from those Iβm privileged to work alongside #NationalAdoptionWeek has given a voice to birth/first parents this yr - it is only when we consider the entire triad impacted by the trauma of #adoption that we can hope to get it right 4 children.

Talking to children about why they cannot or do not live with their first/birth parents or families can be complicated - but making sense of the stories that are told has a lasting and profound impact. Please choose words with sensitivity, compassion, honesty and care #lifestory
