β€˜A bombshell’: doubt cast on discovery of microplastics throughout human body Exclusive: Some scientists say many detections are most likely error, with one high-profile study called a β€˜joke’

I am very honoured to have been inducted into the RMIT University 2025 Media Stars Hall of Fame. This is in recognition of my media performance over a sustained period, including receiving RMIT University's Media Star of the Year Award in 2019 and 2023, the STEM College Media Star Award in 2015.

A good question. It is not possible to test every single item that comes into Australia. Retailers no doubt rely on their suppliers to source properly certified products but certification rules differ in other countries & when people want the cheapest possible product then things can slip through.

I was very pleased to be interviewed on the ABC to discuss the fact that some samples of coloured sand used for children appear to contain a form of asbestos. Yes, it’s worrying, no, you don’t need to panic.

Should I be freaking out about microplastics? Microplastics are turning up everywhere, but some scientists say how harmful they are to our bodies is still uncertain. Here's why.

Infographic on the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, awarded to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi for the development of metal-organic frameworks. The infographic explains that metal-organic frameworks are molecular sponges built up from metal ions and organic compounds that act as linkers. Small molecules such as gases can move into and out of cavities in these frameworks. The graphic highlights some of the MOFs the laureates have developed and concludes by looking at possible future uses of MOFs, including gas storage and extracting water from air.
