So true , I used to read anything but loved the comics that were used on rainy playtimes . Always loved the Xmas annuals too.

So many brilliant suggestions . I would go with Iron Man by Ted Hughes , Onjali Q Rauf the Boy at the Back of the Class , the Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and Book Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers

I used to do this as part of a Schools Library Service. Schools used to buy in to a package of services but we got cut over 10 years ago . I’m not sure how many SLS are still operating as most have been lost in the austerity purge .

About bloody time , the interest rates are a complete rip off . No wonder they are all so pissed off.

Students that I know do not object to paying something towards their studies, its the rip off interest rates that they are pissed off about. It all needs reforming, the system is not fit for purpose.

This is why we really shouldn't build on flood plains/water meadows. Our weather is seemingly getting more extreme. I've noticed over the years the increase in downpours rather than just showery rain.

Can I add Janice Hallet’s A Box Full of Murders +Judith Eagle, Lesley Parr.
There are lots of great reads & other authors in this genre. Some with historical, fantasy or espionage elements as well . I know I’m biased but the UK really does have some of the best children’s authors.

I loved this as an obsessive reading 10 yr old and think I had a copy of Ride the Wind. I'm going to have to go through all my collection to find it or remember who I lent it to.

Get yourself a two bare feet thermal top , neoprene gloves and feet . The kit enables you to stay in longer, you will still get the benefit. Afterwards get changed quickly & have a hot drink & snack to warm up. I’ve been all year round swimming for a long time , it’s very addictive.

This is me too. So many cliches esp when the ‘detective‘ & family become the targets of murderer and it gets personal.Always a sign to me that a series needs to stop, most established crime authors have one of these in their canon. Personally I think too much is published now, no quality control.

This is my son’s favourite book too, his dad read it to him and it holds special memories for them both . The Brad Bird film was fab too but then any animation he did was brilliant.

It’s not just those from under privileged backgrounds. Post grad is becoming the preserve of the very wealthy.

How’s about we go back to having specialist children’s librarians available in public libraries and that book funds are reinstated to the levels of the 20th C. I & other specialists used to be available in the children’s area after school & on Saturdays. Playgroups & schools were regularly visited.

I loved it too. Should try Sally Smith’s Gabriel Ward books if you haven’t read them, the first one is v good.

He’s one of the best children’s picture book author/ artist around today. Such thought provoking books. The Heart in the Bottle, provoked a real gut wrenching response in me following the death of my father due to vascular dementia.
