(It’s also eleventh hour rage bait in a too-long Oscar season where the nominated movies are mostly pretty great, and that bums me out.)

I get thinking he phrased it immaturely (I agree tbh). I also get that you might just not like him and everything that comes out of his mouth hits you the wrong way. I have people who do the same to me. But the context I think matters a ton.

He’s not talking about ballet and opera as artistic forms, he’s talking about them as business endeavors.

(This comes after discussion about how to get younger audiences engaged with movies; act 1 action scenes happen sooner, etc.)

I kept waiting for people to post a fuller version of the clip (particularly since the one that circulated literally began with “…and”).

The context concerns keeping movies viable organically before the audience erodes and you have to go out hat in hand and beg the Kochs and Geffens for it.
