No it’s a real life phenomena that happens when a whale dies. Its body sinks to the bottom of the ocean where all kinds of deep sea life can flourish from it! Truly an incredible spectacle

I got mine refurbished from a riso supplier when they had them available a few years back, if you’re looking for a used one maintenance will pretty much always be necessary though. They pop up on Craigslist or sometimes for sale on risograph community pages on Facebook, etc.
