Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

I am not sure that with the new rules about Airbnb the passage about it is true now for Montreal. It is clearly less (not?) profitable if you really want a place to serve only that purpose with many months not available for that use.

And the REM really helps now to even explore that route bite by bite if / when the whole is too much

Et il y a une confusion claire entre le droit de s'habiller et le droit à la mode. Deux choses bien différentes qu'elle cherche à mélanger clairement.

At least the show was less full of over drama than some of the last 2-3 years.

What I regret though is that they go bigger and bigger with houses while some years ago it was more reasonable places that more people could relate (and it's some good challenge also to work with that)

ETSC: Mutual Recognition Deal with U.S. Will Cost Lives on Europe’s Roads By signing up to mutual recognition of vehicle standards with the United States, the European Union has waved the white flag on road safety. This is not a technical detail – it is a political choice…

“Europe now risks being flooded with oversized, under-regulated U.S. pick-up trucks and SUVs – vehicles that are heavier, more dangerous to other car drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, and completely out of step with Europe’s vision for safer, more sustainable mobility.”

Study finds Montreal cycling infrastructure doesn’t match demand Bike lanes, BIXI stations and other micromobility infrastructure make up just two per cent of Montreal’s street space – even in neighbourhoods where cycling demand would justify more – according to a ...

"The study introduces a new measure called the Equal Infrastructure Allocation (EIA) score, which compares how much dedicated infrastructure space is available per traveler, for different modes of transport."

It's like when there is clear detour and road closed signs but you still see many going inside the road closures or near the construction site. And often they say they didn't see the sign despite passing by 3 big signs.

I didn't have one in the bathroom since I moved to Canada, but before I moved, I had some places with one in them, and I have to say it was nice and useful. But it all depends on the type of building we are talking about also.

The air quality this year is so so bad in East Canada and concerning (with true effects on health).

Still hoping that he will make some to finally understand how things are interconnected on earth.

PS: how is the book?

If I remember correctly, this time would be in line with the previous lane / service that was in place before. However, the service will be offered at a better frequency and with improved opening hours too.

I wish it would be that easy to immigrate here. My husband is in long security check for his Visa while he did his PhD here, I am Canadian living here and he plans to work here.

So for now I have to go see him in US where he is for his postdoc and next year in Europe.

I like it. Just wish that there is something to synchronize Proton Drive with my Synology (like some competitors) and they had a Proton Drive client on Linux like they have for their other apps.
However, I am currently following the news about what will happen if new laws are adopted in Switzerland.

Summerskill assessed the visibility of children of average European height standing in a central position at the front of two well-known high-bonneted vehicles, the RAM TRX and the Land Rover Defender, and one regular car, the VW Golf.

Illustration shows the three situations with a kid in front of each car.

The RAM TRX was chosen as one of highest-fronted light duty vehicles sold in Europe. RAMs are not type approved for the European market, but are registered under Individual Vehicle Approvals (an approval route which is often problematic, and due to be tightened, at least in the EU). The leading edge of the RAM TRX’s bonnet is close to 130 cm high and an elevated area nearer the windscreen also contributes to obscuration by raising the line of vision above the bonnet edge, as shown below. At 115 cm, the Land Rover Defender is understood to have the highest bonnet of European-made models.

On the other hand, the VW Golf, with a bonnet height of 75 cm, is intended to act as a proxy for other vehicles with bonnet heights of 60 to 75 cm, which follow best practice in the design of vehicle fronts, according to the literature. Other vehicles with bonnet heights of 60 to 75 cm include the Audi A1, BMW 4 Series, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia Ceed, Mercedes Benz CLA, Opel / Vauxhall Astra, Porsche Taycan, Seat Leon, Skoda Fabia, Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y.

Seated behind the steering wheel of a RAM TRX pick-up truck, a driver of average European adult height cannot see children of average height standing in front aged up to, and including, nine years old. Average height drivers in Land Rover Defenders cannot see children aged up to four-and-half standing in front.

"As well as increasing collision severity, higher bonnets reduce vision, particularly of children. Reduced driver vision risks increasing the frequency of collisions, and / or near miss situations.

Children are disproportionately killed as pedestrians in road traffic collisions."

Illustration showing the difference between a higher bonnet and a lower bonnet car collision with a pedestrian.

High bonnets strike pedestrians higher up in the body, often hitting vital organs near the core, before knocking them forward and down, with a higher risk of driving over them.

On the other hand, low and sloping bonnets tend to hit pedestrians’ legs, giving them greater chances of landing on the bonnet and / or being deflected.

Ever-higher: the rise of bonnet height, and the case to cap it Report calls on European law-makers to cap bonnet height by 2035, recommending an 85 cm limit for further study

"Overall, limiting bonnet height is part of wider effort to discourage carspreading, which, intended or otherwise, amounts to a multi-pronged attack on public space, public safety and the common good that is steadily being advanced by the manufacturers of the biggest SUVs in particular."

My favorite description of the term “privilege” is who gets the benefit of the doubt and who doesn’t.

We see it every day in who gets the rules rigorously enforced against them and who gets a slap on the wrist or warning when the rules say there are heavy consequences for their actions.
