Many “someones” in my family tree must have had those thoughts on June 19, 1865. Those feelings are, in fact, also universal.

Conditions are still far from perfect socially in the United States, but progress has been made overall. 4/

If you believe in American freedom, you have to believe in it for all, not just some. Can you imagine learning two years after the fact that you are a free human being? Can you imagine the joy? The fear of the unknown? The possibilities of the future? 3/

While Juneteenth (Freedom Day) is billed as a celebration for us Americans of African descent, it’s actually a meaningful day for all Americans who appreciate learning about American history and who appreciate the word “freedom”. It’s not just some “racial holiday”. 2/
