donating local is so so important for this specific situation. Also discuss your donation with the org first, often they have very specific needs and your can of beans might not be as valuable as cash or something else.

I hope the orange man comes around in time, but if not, several community "grocery buddy" programs are springing up to address the need. Please find ones near you to contribute. Or give to local food banks instead of donating to large charities where much of the money goes to overhead.

For anyone wondering, the amount was $65/week in OR. I was the only one in the household who qualified so I shopped for 3 on that amount. The average amount is even less. No one is living high off SNAP but it keeps people from starving which around 42 million people are now facing in November.

People are on benefits because they need it, not to game the system.

16 years ago, I was in an abusive relationship. I couldn't work, no family/friends close by to support me. Reluctantly I went on SNAP benefits and with the limited amount I received every week I had to feed 3 people. It was enough to get me through until times got better and I am forever grateful.
