Ow, that's diabolical. I don't find pricing something 4.99 all that deceiving, but basically hiding the 99 part... I can actually see that one working.

Yeah, that might be it. We weren't exactly paycheck-to-paycheck, but still at a level where you compare prices at the grocery store so you don't waste any money. Even as a kid I thought to myself "Do I actually want and need that?" before answering whether I wanted a toy or something.

My brain still instantly registers 49.99 € as 50 €. I think anything 45.01 and up looks like "basically 50" to me as I translate it to bills. (5 € being the smallest bill, I'd need a 50 € bill for the 45.01)
