10.08.2025 02:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I suppose if I ever went back to university and studied Literature (with the capital L) I could write essays on how and why I didn't like them, using the required academic parlance. I could point out where exactly I stopped.
I don't think I'd be very popular...
It makes me wonder how I read so many (to me) God-awful books at school and university. The best I can think of is that they made me know how *not* to write.
09.08.2025 23:11 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I can't read Ian Fleming. I think I try about once a decade to give him a read and I just can't get into. Like the kebab shop that used to be across the street from me, I wonder why I haven't been there and remember once I have been.
09.08.2025 23:10 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I may have never actually seen Casablanca. Not all of it, at least. Hmmm...

How's everyone else doing?
I may need to replace my phone sooner rather than later.
This morning it told me that its charging port was wet and I needed to dry it out. However, if I turned the phone off it would charge.
Came into work and plugged it in. Turned it on. Works and charges normally now.

Typo of the Day: Werebus.
Do not board the werebus. You won't like what happens when it turns back into its human form...
So, I'm reading this PKD novel. In the first chapter this guy is trying to get his "rhetorizor" to write a speech for him. He punches in some keywords and the machine spits out rubbish that it has created by consulting its info-data.
Here we are 60 years later doing the same thing with our GenAI...
That's the one with the kid with amnesia, isn't it?

09.07.2025 08:35 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Trying to find the contents page of short story collections is like pulling teeth and often impossible. It's the biggest selling point of the damn book. If a horror anthology has no contents I'm going to assume no one of note is in it. If you throw me a page with King, Jackson and Carter I'm in.
09.07.2025 06:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This was my AD&D DM style. I'd have wonderful backdrops and let the players do whatever they wanted until the plot filled in the gaps by itself.
Also, taking both pills was something a friend and fellow philosopher used as a possible way to get to a paraconsistent universe!
Warm your fingers and brain up with some microfiction. 100 words. On anything. Look around you and write about paint, carpet, toenails, anything that catches your eye.
Or write a haiku.
I like to think of it as mentally stretching.
I read Stephen King use to take walks before he got hit by that van.
Curious? I know I am!

02.07.2025 00:37 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Big W and Amazon sell new releases for half RRP (because they can and they don't mind killing independent bookshops).
There are other price points depending on the what particular type of paperback they are (mass-market, trade, or B), and hardbacks are just insanely priced these days...
Are we talking more than the usual $36 for a new paperback?

Are we going to see physical copies of these bad boys?
Dylan really did know how to dish it out back in the day.

28.06.2025 05:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Had internet problems this morning and was too lazy to get up to kick the magic internet box. Played around on my phone instead.
Fixing the internet involved nothing more complicated than turning it off and back on again. If only all of life's problems could be fixed like that...
I recall having a moment back in the day where my friend and I were confused why we had different memories of what some of the Disciplines did and it turned out there was a rules tweak between 1e and 2e, and despite us both having read both editions we each remembered a different edition's rules.

I was actually reading something (in print, no less, by a famous author, no less) where for a paragraph or two the author makes the switch. I read ahead and back to see if maybe I'd missed something, but, nope, it appeared the author and editors had.
Slept for nearly 48 hours straight.
Still feel a little tired.
Just before I got up to pee I was still feeling iffy, but now I feel like I can face the world again.
