Keeping it simple and affordable, so no fluorescence on our adaption. But we can still do a lot of research label-free, and we have new analysis hopefully coming that will help even further with @piximi-official.bsky.social and #CellPhe
Many thanks Julian. The latest incubators were too well insulated! The motors heat was enough to overheat the incubator, hence some of the changes. The OFM is awesome, so a BIG thanks to you for the original work and ease of access and use. I am sure many more adaptations will come

Key changes:
Simple offline t-lapse GUI
Thermally robust plastics
Components moved outside humid chamber
Components to reduce heat inside an insulated chamber!
New stage for 35mm culture dishes
A cheap UPS to negate effects from brown and blackouts
Proved use with bio-meaningful experiments
Why is live-cell imaging not common place? How many competent systems are available outside well funded labs?
Our LCI-OFM will help support the development and wider adoption of live cell imaging across LMICs, and open up live-cell imaging for project students across the world.
Unleashing live-cell imaging for the masses!
Adapting the OpenFlexure Microscope for Affordable Live-Cell Imaging www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Fits into existing incubators for time-lapse experiments & feeds into existing bioimaging analysis pipelines.
Thanks @wellcometrust.bsky.social funding

They share the (brutal) grad-school mailroom origin story of their partnership, how video compression work at Microsoft shaped their thinking, and the risky jump into biology from Rosetta to Harvard, during the early days of systems biology.

Pure joy. The last of #TheMicroscopists season with Steve Altschuler and Lani Wu. From Princeton to Microsoft, Rosetta to Harvard and having to learn biology as PI’s in undergad lectures!
Just a wonderful listen
