Good news re: government reinstating maintenance grants for university students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Tuition fees, interest rates on student loan debt, rising accommodation costs & more, have been making uni once more the sole preserve of the already advantaged middle/upper classes.

Thanks Megan - not sure what there is for either of us to be cynical about? I don't think my post suggests competition between regions - just an observation that 9/10 of the boroughs with the most rapid fall are in London. Recognising that doesn't mean there aren't many challenges elswhere?

From @tesmagazine.bsky.social - the 10 boroughs with biggest falls in primary school numbers over last 5 years. This is hitting London really hard.

Pleased, and a little surprised, that this book has been downloaded over 200,000 times as a free PDF.
That's just a number. What matters is how colleagues are using these ideas to make a difference for children and families. Thank you for reading, sharing and discussing.

I don't think Peter Mandelson is PM's biggest problem. The biggest problem is not standing up to the literal violent racism on our streets, supercharged by the richest man in the world, and threatening the very fabric of our society. If he and so many commentators can't see this, we're truly lost.

It's a huge tribute to Rob and the whole team involved that this programme is working so well. It's never easy to get this level of collaboration across agencies.

This is the kind of initiative we need to make a long term difference for children's language. Skilled Early Years staff, together with families.
Yes, it takes investment, but the knock on benefits are worth it.
