π‘Lemon Yellow
π΄Rose Madder Lake
Itβs fun to mix from a limited palette and I end up using a wider range of shades and tones with this method of colour mixing. How do you mix yours? ππβ

The flaming purple-orange underside of a large Rheum palmatum leaf is held aloft with the sunlight filtering through to green top-side of another enormous leaf below. To the left rear of the image a large red-purple leaf bud emerges from the base of the plant, looming like a tower and casting shadow over the lower leaf. This sits above a chipped bark mulch in the grounds of the garden at RHS Bridgewater.
Planning is vital. Iβve been observing the growth cycle of Rheum palmatum in the walled garden of #RHSbridgewater throughout the year. Measurements, sketches, photos, background reading.
It is almost time to pick up the brushes!

Watercolour painting of a nineteen pointed holly leaf with a shiny light reflective surface.
The days shorten but the sun casts a magical glow. Here, just finished, is a holly leaf study (Ilex aquifolium) in watercolour, based on leaves from the magnificent hollies growing in my local park. Iβve called this painting βNineteen Pointsβ.
