So sorry to hear it, it is definitely a struggle no matter what but I do think conditions and awareness are overall improving.

This is so insane that it beggars belief honestly. There's nothing to say those going through this, and that will be affected directly by this, other than it sucks, it is oppression, and even in countries outside of the US we support you and will fight against this.

Bleak, grim, terrible news is coming in fast these days. I'm sorry for all my academic folks in the US and others who rely on government funding and programs, as well as the many PhDs I know working for federal agencies. Destruction and chaos is the point, I know, and it extremely sucks.

Where can I scream into a void? (Is it here?) I’ve got to say, with everything going on, trying to find a job while managing my chronic illness, and trying to gauge what work I can do when I can no longer struggle through a 9-5 job, is exhausting! Add in constant medical appointments, etc. #burntout

I have basic accommodations, no visible disability (dynamic), and yet I've never had them done without having to go through months of advocating for myself until finally I get a chair or some lab modifications, multiple universities too. Always a fight, and damage done to the health in the process.

I know, I know, I'm always the one complaining about academia. But I do have to say that if we don't change the incentive structures in academia and really change the publish or perish culture--things like this will continue to happen (not at all to justify these actions but to understand them).

So sorry to read this story Ros, it is unfortunately very similar to my own and others I know with chronic illness, and getting covid is like being back at the beginning again. I hope she is able to get the treatment and that it helps to improve quality of life.
