I agree Ailie - it doesn't sit well with me either. Totally agree it is our job to share what we're privileged to study, but it sometimes feel like taking the p!$s. Particularly when researchers are asked to write a piece with a pre-determined narrative...

Ooh, and this one: "It is essential to highlight ways for scientists to effectively engage in science communication that maintains scientific credibility and trust in science and allows scientists to fulfil their roles as both scientists and citizens"

And this quote "...it is pointless to try to separate the citizen from the scientist or to impose silence to create false credibility based on unattainable and undesirable neutrality"

I particularly like the distinction between neutral science:
"science free from values,” compared to objective science: “science free from personal biases of scientists”

I used to think science was completely objective, free from human values and biases.

Obviously, that is bollocks. We are humans who make value informed decisions every day!

The lines show the CO2 increases in the past, the star shows the @metoffice.bsky.social CO2 prediction for this year at the Moana Loa observatory, the pink shows where we need to be to stay under 1.5C of global warming. We've got a lot of work to do
