This became insanely fun! And thanks to the physics control in UE5 we got him on a level that's beyond the initial idea.

This is beyond what I expected and it feels like a little support animal. I definitely feel some relaxation when playing with him.

Now we implemented some hand gestures. The octopus can stop, move to you, roam around and.... turn away when you are rude.
And by setting the characters root as world space parent and moving him around only by forces, he became much more alive than expected.
I had real trouble make the octopus move until I figured out he ACTUALLY moves through his animation.
Happy little accidents. Barry and me met at an OceanX Hackathon and we kept tinkering with immersive ideas. Both of us wanted to explore a VR experience mainly for our own fun and to learn.
I wanted to see how far we can push character physics on the Meta Quest in #UE5 using an octopus.
That would be awesome!
