I did use fixed framerate for a while for my in-dev metroidvania, but I changed it a few months ago and i really love the gain of fluidity, it feels visually better. Also I don't use pixel values for distances and frames values for durations so I didn't got real benefits from that either.

I cleaned the new axe swings animations, and while i was at it, also improved the 2 axe swings i already got (and their charged variants), cause they weren't as cool as the new ones.
Still, recency bias or not, my favorite is the swing up anim, with the downward pogo close second!

Subnautica was made by Unknown Worlds but they got bought by Krafton, there was a massive layoff orchestrated by Krafton then a big lawsuit from ancients from Unknown Worlds against Krafton but I don't know how did it goes then :(

Btw for a 2D game with no skeletal animation I think you should manage your animator transitions in code. The nightmarish mess of transitions would have made me crazy before I got the new attacks working if I didn't reworked Vindica's animator in that way, here is the before & after:

I'm pretty happy with how the swing charge system impacts the feels, as well as the possibility to follow each of the 3 main attacks with a fast whirl attack. I think they convey the weight and force of the axe and give a lot of interesting options regarding planning/positionning/dmg optimization.

The game got directional attacks and a pogo downward swing now!
A bit reminiscent of Hollow Knight but I like it a lot! I aimed for a different feel for the attacks at the start with a swing charge system that can be chained with a whirl attack, but after many iterations I ended up somewhat close!

Une Quoi ?
Deux jours d’expérimentation et de collaboration où vous pourrez mélanger techniques traditionnelles et outils IAG, en équipe. L’occasion de tester, apprendre et réfléchir aux usages possibles de ces technologies dans nos métiers.
L'objectif n’est pas de promouvoir l’IA à tout prix, mais de créer un espace pour expérimenter avec recul, partager les pratiques, et surtout questionner collectivement les transformations en cours dans les métiers créatifs.
Pour Qui ?
Créatives et créatifs, étudiantes et étudiants, professionnels de l’animation, des VFX et du jeu vidéo, passionnés de nouvelles technologies ou simplement curieux… Cette Jam est ouverte à tous celles et ceux qui souhaitent expérimenter et partager autour de l’IAG appliquée à la création.
L'Objectif ?
Créer un film d'animation (de format très court) en 48h avec l'aide de l'IA, par équipe de 4 (3 professionnels de l'animation + 1 étudiant ou 4 professionnels en fonction du nombre d'inscriptions)
Pour les pros, la Jam permet d'expérimenter avec les différentes IA (en SaaS), tester ses usages et s’y confronter de façon concrète.
L’objectif, pour les étudiants, est de découvrir/explorer diverses utilisations de l’intelligence artificielle de manière encadrée, expérimenter et tester avec des mentors, travailler au contact de professionnels de l’animation et tisser du lien avec le milieu professionnel et les participants issus des autres écoles, se forger une opinion.
Des ateliers et conférences rythmeront ces deux jours de Jam qui sera par ailleurs encadrée par des professionnels du secteur expérimentés.
Donc mi novembre, Magelis organise sur un week-end une "creative jam" dans les locaux de l'ENJMIN, au plateau projet, qui demande aux M2 de libérer ledit plateau et leurs pc de travail dès le vendredi... Et la jam c'est réaliser un court métrage d'animation full IA.

Gitlab is a good equivalent to github but they too stepped into AI with Gitlab Duo, so I'm already worried about enshitiffication & no privacy of repos to feed AI.
