I feel like if I was the candidate infamous for having a nazi tattoo, I probably wouldn't pose for a photograph next to a man wearing an "88" t-shirt.

I think I'd probably wanna make it real clear that I had nothing to do with that man or his views.

the tent before it's destruction. It looks pretty bad already, old and patched.

We urgently need a tent. We no longer have any shelter and have ended up in the street after our tent was torn and collapsed.
This was the tent that used to protect us and give us shelter.
Please don’t leave us alone. Help us in any way you can.

Yeah, not a great sign that they're just going to be experimenting on trans inmates like this and it's not a big story.

This week it was uncovered that the Trump regime is trying to "cure" trans prisoners of being transgender, while doing everything they can - from labeling our mere existence as explicit to stripping us of our legal documents - to ensure we *all* end up imprisoned in their ever-growing camps.

A titan of vaccine development sees his field’s achievements slip away Stanley Plotkin, the 93-year-old "godfather of vaccines," is watching his field’s achievements slip away.

β€œIn a pair of recent interviews with STAT, Plotkin expressed dismay at seeing the achievements of his career & his field slip away. He knows what lies ahead…

Veneration of the military is a cultic practice used to insulate the state from the banal reality that the primary purpose of the army is murdering brown people and smashing leftist political movements.

01.03.2026 14:12 β€” πŸ‘ 899    πŸ” 197    πŸ’¬ 7    πŸ“Œ 3

And if that's the purpose of an opinion column, great! More power to ya! But you can't expect people not to notice a pattern in which radical ideas get to be normalized and which don't, especially if it's really, really obvious that it's only ever extreme right-wing or militaristic positions.

02.03.2026 13:45 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

NYT Opinion puts out some pretty dang extreme stuff; it just doesn't strike people as extreme because they've been desensitized to it for decades that these are "acceptable" opinions to hold, in part because NYT Opinion plays a roll in normalizing them among elites.

02.03.2026 13:45 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Because let's analyze this for a second. Can you even imagine, for a millisecond, NYT publishing an Opinion piece written by a radical trans author that made the case for abolishing gender markers in state documentation and medical intake forms altogether? Of course not.

02.03.2026 13:45 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but if the point of an opinion column is to convey opinions to its leadership, how come it only ever seems to find opinions for one position, namely the one consistent with its editorial politics?

02.03.2026 13:34 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

it is conflating the views of different writers. coincidentally, the range of writers the NYT has published on the subject range from actively masturbatory at the thought of brown people death (Bret Stephens) to solemnly reconciled to the necessity of the lesser races being purged (Ross Douthat).

02.03.2026 05:13 β€” πŸ‘ 20    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

By the way, in the interests of constructive dialogue instead of just dunking, her initial post in the thread is *correct* that people are conflating the views of different writers, but I think that's a separate matter from the idea of some kind of institutional mandate that deflects responsibility.

Cancel Culture & the Free Marketplace of Ideas Under General Code of Internet Procedures, Article VIII, Subsection 3, Paragraph E.4, anyone who writes on the internet long enough is required to eventually write about β€œCancel Culture&#8221…

Not to keep belaboring this point, which I'm sure you're all sick and tired of hearing from me, but I think this marks a profound misunderstanding of how "the marketplace of ideas" is supposed to work, which requires people to take ideas and their implications seriously!

I do understand that this is, fundamentally, what the press believes their job is, but I would argue that if the role of a newspaper is simply to serve as a message board for elite debate, it is not an institution or occupation worthy of much intrinsic respect or deference.

The internet is *teeming* with prophets and influencers who are claiming that the *timing* of the strikes, just before the blood moon (lunar eclipse) that coincides with Purim, is a prophetic sign of (variously) a modern-day defeat of Haman moment; God's judgment; a period of pre-end-times turmoil.

When Donald Trump came to Jerusalem, I put up the largest billboards in the nation declaring, β€œCyrus the Great Is Alive.” They were reported on around the world. In Iran, one article even asked, β€œIs he King Cyrus, or is he Esther?”

The Jewish people celebrated a miracle brought about by one person, Esther, who had the courage to confront the spirit of Amalek the spirit of evil calling for the annihilation of the Jewish people. This is the same spirit now operating through the demon-possessed mullahs in Iran, who believe they can usher in the 12th descendant of Mohammed through an apocalypse and force every person on the planet to bow to Islam.

Today, both the Persian people and the Jewish people are celebrating a Purim miracle.

Christian leaders who study biblical prophecy, like Pastor John Hagee and Pastor Mark Biltz, have contended for years that blood moons portend significant events for Israel and the Middle East, and perhaps more so when they land on Jewish holy days.

The Gospel of Luke 21:25-28 points to more celestial signs before the end of days: "And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads because your redemption is drawing near."

n Purim, the Jewish holiday that celebrates the day Queen Esther saved the Jews from annihilation, Trinity Broadcasting Network’s flagship talk show, Praise the Lord, featured an appearance by Rabbi Daniel Lapin. A politically conservative Orthodox rabbi, Lapin is best known for crusading with the Christian right against anti-religion bigotry and, more recently, for his close association with the convicted super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff. But he was not invited to a nationwide telecast to discuss such topics as the trumped-up war against religion or the better nature of his fallen friend. He had been asked to explain the significance of Purim to Christians, and particularly how the Old Testament’s Book of Esther β€œserves as a roadmap to reality,” which pinpoints where the next world β€œhot spot” will be.

The resonance of Purim in the Christian Zionist zeal for regime change in Iran is a longstanding one. I wrote this 20 years ago:

In case you're wondering how some sectors of the Christian right are seeing Trump's war in Iran, I've just read several articles seeing a prophetic meaning in a coincidence of Trump's strikes, the assassination of Khameni, and a blood moon occurring on Purim (tomorrow).

Pete, is getting frantic. When asked about four weeks he said it was a "typical NBC sort of gotcha type question. President Trump has all the latitude in the world to talk about how long it may or not take. Four week, two weeks, six weeks. It could move up, it could move back."
