It is dangerous and terrible but also just so deeply embarrassing that this is how our country is being run

once again, if the only thing you knew about trump was that he was a malignant narcisscist you'd be much better able to predict how this stuff goes than people who interpret his actions through the lens of geopolitics or military strategy or whatever. creates a crisis then demands credit for fixing

they're gonna spend $50B re-opening the Strait of Hormuz over the next 6 months and then act like it's this huge victory when they only thing they accomplished was restoring the pre-war status quo

A split image featuring two photos of a child, overlaid with text expressing grief and loss after a war. A woman wearing a hijab and face mask embraces a young child, both looking at the camera. The woman wears a red shirt under a green headscarf, while the child is wearing a beige jacket.

Have you ever experienced the feeling of time stopping at a final cry of farewell?💔Ilost my2daughters in this war&all Ihave left is my son Ibrahim. Is it possible that my heart must taste the bitterness of loss twice?Im amother pleading you to protect the last breath in my life🙏😭💔

A man takes a selfie with a woman in a medical setting; the woman, wearing a hijab and surgical mask with an eye patch, lies in bed under a blanket, receiving an IV; both look directly at the camera. A young man with short, dark hair and a beard, wearing a black shirt, looks directly at the camera with a tear running down his cheek; background includes a tent, clotheslines, and a clear, blue sky.

Brandy's is the best piece I've read on the Prairieland verdicts with the issues the most crisply explained.

Unless these verdicts are overturned, any random gaggle of people is at risk of being labeled "terrorists" by DOJ, regardless of the reality.

Looks we’re in the beginnings of yet another Red Scare, and this Texas jury just handed the government the keys to prosecute us

Plan accordingly, and don’t let this deter you from doing good antifascist work. Solidarity with the Prairieland defendants

The Road to Prairieland The crackdown on anti-ICE activists in Texas reflects a pattern of intensifying repression all around the country.

Extremely grim news from Texas.

Absurdly, a jury has decided to convict all of the defendants on most of the charges, including "Corruptly Concealing a Document" for moving a box of zines.

The jury's verdict:

Absolutely awful result in the "antifa terrorism" trial against the Prairieland noise demonstrators. Innocent people convicted under conspiracy statutes because they had zines at home, or wore black, or were in a Signal chat — even those who did not actually participate in the demonstration.

Anti-ICE protesters accused of being part of antifa found guilty of support for terrorism in Texas Case was seen as major test of the first amendment and whether the US could use broad anti-terrorism statute to prosecute leftwing protesters

today all 9 people federally charged with "materially supporting terrorism", rioting, carrying an explosive, as part of an "ANTIFA cell" were found guilty on some or all charges. the case was based in part on being in Signal organizing group chats and possessing political leftist zines.

Obvious attack on the First Amendment, and also--importantly--an attack on the second amendment

One asshole did a stupid thing, and the completely legal firearms owned by other protesters became evidence of domestic terrorism

the presence of legally owned and carried guns in an overwhelmingly pro-gun state was used to convict this group of protestors of terrorism INCLUDING one who wasn't even at the protest in question

It also should be looked upon as extremely dire toward the second amendment but since it's a bunch of trans and queer lefties it won't be

This case essentially criminalized protests in the US.

Now they've been convicted, en masse, of being a terrorist cell, again despite being a bunch of trans polycules and zinesters who turned out to their local protest. Their most radical zine was a film criticism.

The Prairieland case has not gotten enough attention, and it's terrifying. These were a bunch of trans and queer lefties, many of whom didn't know each other before the protest, who went down to a protest and were deemed terrorists and put in jail and denied hrt and medications.

The REAL cultural story IMHO is how many people are willing to burn down their own lives and this country so they can be bigots.

You are not going to get me to empathize with these grown men - Cavanaugh was 28, and Fox was 27 (they are 29, and 28 now IIRC)

You can argue they didn't know it was potentially criminal but even if what they were doing was legal it was steeped in bigotry. They don't get a pass on that.

You don't get to paper over the fact that they are bigots. They knowingly wanted to strip minorities and women of any historical representation. They killed projects simply because they had ethnic identities and genders attached.

It’s not just annoying at this point; there’s a profound blind spot in media reporting where arts coverage isn’t even worth taking note of.
