12 hours of solid troubleshooting later, with a few head-against-wall episodes due to a stumper of a task, I've submitted my document of said troubleshooting to WGU to satisfy course D412 (Network Analytics and Troubleshooting). I'll know if it passes muster in about 4 days.

(NB: Microsoft may, at some point in the future, also terminate Windows updates to computers that don't meet the system requirements, but so far that has not happened.)

№5. It is also *trivially* easy to dodge the hardware checks and foisting of a Microsoft online account upon you using a tool such as Rufus (rufus.akeo.ie) which can produce an install medium that lets you perform a fresh install or upgrade on existing, officially noncompatible computers.

№4. You've no idea if/when Microsoft will ever patch the flaw used to get you the three free years of updates and suddenly rendering your system un-updatable. Reading up on it, it's exceptionally difficult for MSFT to do, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

№3. Software already exists to take back control or limit the amount of things that Win11 performs telemetry on. E.g. StartAllBack, Explorer Patcher, O&O ShutUp10/11, Windows local group policy (though GPOs are pain to implement on the Home edition)

Items to consider:
№1. This is more or less piracy. If you care about being legitimate, don't do this. And don't do this on any computer that's owned by an org or business.
№2. You're kicking the can down the road for 3 years. If Windows 10 is your best or only option? Consider migration. (Cont'd.)

Spent today dicking around with GNS3, and now I have a simple network with two simulated PCs, a VyOS router/firewall, and an internet link.

The simulated PCs have just enough smarts to get a DHCP IP address and can ping/traceroute, and that's all.
