In preparing myself for the transition I came to it with an open mind, knowing that I have gotten through the Sanderson versions and enjoyed finishing the story. So now I can put a finger on why I had the reaction I did all those years ago. I found the prose in the first prologue story clumsy and weak compared to the casual elegance and richness of Robert Jordan. The farmer's story is reminiscent of bad war propaganda in its style and execution. If that was the intention then it succeeded in throwing me off and further lamenting Jordan's passing. However I look forward to getting to the parts of the books where Sanderson excels in fulfilling Jordan's vision
