There aren’t many things worse one can imagine than the loss of a child.

But the loss of a child to a vaccine preventable disease is a pain no parent or family should ever have to bear.

Sowing distrust about vaccines, arguably the greatest public health success of all time, is pure evil.

A reminder that I will be giving this webinar today as part of ICPSR’s #SBECCC. This is the first time that I’ll be introducing this work, which we believe has great potential to improve the quality of imputations in a variety of settings. Would love to hear thoughts! Link below.

More sad news. I spent a good bit of time working with the CSCAR experts during my dissertation. They are a valuable resource at this university.

UMich cancels doctoral epidemiology program admissions for 2026 The University of Michigan School of Public Health will not admit a 2025-2026 admissions cycle cohort to its PhD in Epidemiologic Sciences program.

So sad for this news and the scholars who will miss the opportunity for a world class education.

And the good news continues — paper 1 from my dissertation is officially out!

We found living in a redlined neighborhood is associated with lower breast cancer survival, regardless of treatments or health insurance. More evidence that neighborhoods matter for health and breast cancer.

Historic Structural Racism and Perceived Stress in Adolescents This study is the first to examine the impact of structural racism from historic redlining practices on present-day perceived stress in adolescents.

The panic you're seeing on social media about this reflects how critical NIH funding is for most scientific research in the US, and relatedly the funding of universities, healthcare systems, and research organizations. Health spending constitutes 18% of GDP. NIH funding is deeply enmeshed in it.
