Funny how and when a case of the nerves hits. I sent my manuscript to my editor this weekend, and she emailed me back today telling me she received it and couldn't wait to get started.

Good, right?

Only now I want to crawl under the bed and hide.

Well, I did the scary thing. I sent my manuscript to my editor. I was never going to stop editing it, and that's what I'm paying her for, right?

Now I need to take a deep breath and focus on book two while that one's off to the cleaners. LOL.

I'm meeting up with a friend this afternoon to plan our girls-only trip I'm using it as a mini-celebration for shipping my manuscript off to my editor. Hoping the change of scenery will give me some good ideas for book 2- even though I'm already 10k words into it.

Maybe the answer is to craft a file of worthy shares that we can lean into when we lake the inspiration? Like a rainy day file.

My manuscript goes to the editor this week. I've been tweaking & polishing it since May, and yet still I'm anxious about uploading it and putting it in some else's hands. Why are next steps so intimidating?

I'm working on that as well. My issue is I don't always feel like I have something noteworthy to share.

Perhaps it may boil down to consistency and keeping a stockpile of interesting tidbits to share.

At the library this morning (because reading helps make writers better), I was perusing a particular series On the next row over, another series by a different author had the exact same titles (different scenarios.) Confusing! Doesn't that dilute sales?

Let it sit on the back burner for a few weeks. When you go back to it, you'll be able to look at it with fresh eyes. The longer the delay, the better.

Sometimes it's not writer's block, but other issues. Life is a big one.

My main character has a verbal tic that would cause her to mimic frog calls when she heard one.

Decided to skim right on past that.

If it makes you feel better, I posted that I was hiring a local artist to do the cover art for my upcoming novel (also due out in 2026) and have been inundated with people asking if I'd like to hire their artist services.

It's like they can't read...

She expertly slipped the beads beneath the loom, using the finger of her other hand to lift them against the threads so that each bead lay in its own lane, and with the other hand she threaded the needle into the beads and over each thread, coaxing it through the narrow holes. The rhythm steadied her thoughts—in, out, pull tight—a language of motion older than words.

This is from my #WIP book two of the Nerissa Morgen series. It's a nuanced scene where the main character is reconnecting with her Native American cultural roots over beadworking.

Wondering if I'm the only one that does this when #writing. I'll lay down to sleep, clearly focused on a scene that I'm struggling with, and fall asleep - revisiting it as I wake off & on during the night. By morning, my subconscious has written the scene. Anyone else do this?

Finicky: Me picking the green vegetables out of my food.

I hit on an explanation earlier today why magic users fly under the radar in my world. The wizard explained that some people can't handle the new reality and become fearful zealots. You know - destroy the things you don't understand. Magic users are the minority.

I've given this some thought. First, I don't think a wizard-detective would have studied that particular vein of magic; In my head, necromancy is rare, and they'd have to enlist the aid of someone that practices that particular brand of magic. Then it depends on how the victim was dispatched.

You're not alone! Took me a while to get it!!
