Data is for life (and not just International Data Week) This week is International Data Week in Brisbane, and having watched along and participated I've decided to share a brief write-up of what I thought the highlights and themes of the event were.

As International Data Week has just finished, if you didn't make it to Brisbane here is a brief write-up of my highlights and what I thought were some of the main themes this year open.substack.com/pub/scedmund... #IDW2025

This month we're celebrating our 24 years of the Global Biodiversity information Facility, πŸ’š but did you know that we almost weren't called GBIF?

Take a brief look at some of GBIF's fascinating history πŸ‘€

Big thank you to Steve Young for sharing his knowledge!

More Things That Editors Dislike - hype. Words such as 'groundbreaking', 'breakthrough' and 'transformative' are anathema. Good data analysed properly should speak for themselves.

Nice! I would like to use a datalogger that measures basic weather data but also light at the camera location. What would be a good choice so the camera produced data could be go neatly with datalogger's (without major syncing pains etc). Did not use dataloggers since 2013, tech has evolved a bit...
