This. All of it.
Very interesting podcast by @polphilpod.bsky.social with the awesome @danielsohege.bsky.social
Agree with many of the conclusions but
I suspect it will be easier to form a GRN-LD electoral pact than he thinks. With the exception of a few constituencies they are largely contesting different places
I genuinely hope you are right and I am wrong
Folks, you didn't even know the Strait of Hormuz was important and thought the Iranian army fought with sticks and slingshots. I am not convinced this is the time to dumb down your military leadership.
Starting to think the Joker may not have been the bad guy
Oh it was a blinder. Ireland played particularly well, is there a gritted teeth emoji
With cullen skink, which I love
My wife: So Scotland can't win then
?????
Why are you looking like that
Oooohh did Ireland just ruin you?
??????
The wine's over there and don't forget to cook.
I swear I am cooking haggis for dinner. Anyway, congratulations to Ireland in the rugby.
Funnily enough, I was thinking very much the same when I first saw the article
A minor point in the grand scheme of Trump's unhinged approach to... everything, but saying it is "easy for them to send a drone or two, drop a mine or deliver a close range missile somewhere, does somewhat contradict his claim of destroying 100% or Iran's military capacity.
Look at you being all down with the youth
Ah, shit, forget people can actually see those videos....wait which account 😁
What I also find is people ignore I tend to comment on very specific areas, because those are the policy areas I know about and work on, predominately rights based e.g. migrants rights, trans rights etc, and on those areas of policy Labour is now to the right of previous Conservative governments.
As we discussed on @polphilpod.bsky.social, a lot of people will say by focusing on negatives of Labour's policies we don't give enough credence to the positive policies. Fair enough, I guess, but the positive policies don't remotely outweigh the negative ones and their impacts on people's lives.
I ain't dead, yet. So that's something

Simply put, without migrants the system. Losing 21% of the NHS workforce, either via direct policies or creating an increased hostile environment, isn't going to help, but nor is losing £2.6 billion per year into funding the NHS. 5/5
All of this is a long-winded way to say Lam is trying to stoke resentment against migrants based on nothing. Yes, migration can increase usage of the NHS, however, this is more than offset by the double taxation migrants pay with IHS and the proportion of NHS workforce they make up. 4/5
✅About 21% of NHS staff are "non-British".

✅Staff come from all over the world and work in a variety of positions, meaning bars on nationalities, or based on skill sets, undermine NHS as a whole.

✅Migrants are roughly 40% less likely to use the NHS than British born citizens

✅Undocumented migrants in particular are already excluded from majority of NHS treatment

Katie Lam is being highly misleading. Here are just some things we do know:
✅ International Health Surcharge raised about £2.6 billion towards the NHS in the year 2024/25

✅ Majority of migrants have to pay it.

Our “no one was panicked then and no one is panicked now” t-shirt is raising many questions already answered by the t-shirt but not, crucially, by any of us *breathes into paper bag*
"and is this game plan in the room with us now?"
I am open to any platforms, and can see a lot of people understandably don't want to subscribe to substack. Other people have mentioned Ghost which I am looking into, possibly Patreon, because of other features such as q and a s
I would definitely make sure I still published free articles absolutely
Thank you both so much. That is really helpful
Also, relatedly, if anyone knows of a book agent/publisher who may be interested in a book looking at the erosion of rights, particularly migrants and LGBTQIA+ globally and how, conversely, this can mobilise support for progressive policies please let me know.
Btw, not necessarily substack👇
Thank you
Wouldn't have to be substack, just used that as an example, but any income generating platform like that would do if people were interested
That is a sound and fair reason. I have much the same problem with that number I would like to follow
