After watching the Lilith Fair documentary I'm listening to Lilith Fair music and got reminded of my favorite Lisa Loeb song ("Do You Sleep?"). Haven't heard it in years; still know every word. (Fun fact: Lisa Loeb remains the only celebrity anyone has ever told me I look like. And we both knit!)

Agreed! I want to say Knitting from the Top but they are all so great. And I can't imagine my knitting life without the treasuries of knitting patterns. So yes, all of them.

So anyway, go pick up a knitting book. Learn from the ancestors. And share what you find out! If you already knew Walker I'd love to know what your favorite book of hers is. 6/6

Zimmermann, Walker, Maggie Righetti, Deborah Newton, Mary Thomas, and on and on, those are my knitting grandmothers, too. And I don't know if people who learn on the Internet have access to that wisdom. I feel sorry for them if they don't. 5/6

I wrote a sort of newsy post about her here: knitting.craftgossip.com/knitting-ico... but what I didn't touch on is how I wonder if knitters coming up today even know who she is. I learned the basics from my grandma and mom but what I know of techniques I learned from books. 4/6

I use her stitch dictionaries all the time, and all of this in not even to mention her work in feminism, goddess mythology, tarot and I-ching. What a life. What a legacy. 3/6

First it's really hard to imagine that something like that hasn't always existed, but it's still pretty new in the history of knitting. She also helped popularize knitting garments from the top down and mosaic/charted knitting. 2/6

So sad to hear today of Barbara G. Walker's passing. The first book I read when I started writing about knitting professionally was Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitting without Tears, which sent me quickly to Barbara Walker when I learned she (Walker) invented the slip slip knit. 1/6 #craftsky 🧶

Did my volunteer session at the library this morning, grabbed lunch for the fam, went on a walk, to the grocery store and made fudge and candied pecans. Now (2:45 pm) finally have time to work. Want to nap. Happy busy days.

Feeling a little superstitious as I bought planner pages today. The last time I did that was for 2020. Didn't really need them much, as it turned out.
