Lots of kids had them in the suburbs of Houston too. And I haven’t seen one kid yet wearing a helmet.

Texting daily with a random human peer is more effective at reducing loneliness than texting with a highly supportive chatbot.

Next time you feel lonely reach out to a human, any human.

When you tell your next door neighbor their house is too far to walk over bc there is no spare energy left to get through the day.

They are equally as stressed out about this as I am. Take care of your peeps as peeps really aren’t doing well right now.

Ugh. I’ve been waiting on a doctor to fill out a form since January. They finally did last week. Then lost the signed form. So starting over again with their office and the deadline to submit it is just days away.

Things we want people to know. 6 years after the start* of the COVID-19 pandemic. *The day the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. This was not the date of the first case. It’s not just a cold. We wish it were just a cold. We would not keep talking about it if so. Since 2020, doctors, scientists, and millions of people who have had COVID-19 have learned that it can cause permanent damage to multiple organ systems within your body, leave you disabled and unable to do the things you love, and significantly harm your quality of life. A cold cannot disable or kill you the way COVID-19 can. We know a lot more about prevention than we did back then. We all remember when we thought maybe we’d be ok as long as we were 6 feet away from sick people; that masks worked one way but not the other; and more. But just like with all new viruses and scientific study, we learned more as
there was more time to
study and observe, and we
now know that wearing masks
and keeping cleaner air are key to
protecting ourselves and others. Now that we know better, we can (and should) better protect ourselves and others. We understand the frustration about vaccines, but they are still extremely important. We all remember when vaccines were first made available, and it would’ve been great if that was the end of the pandemic. It wasn’t. And a lot of people have gotten frustrated and have given up on vaccination. It’s true, the virus that causes COVID-19 changes (which is why, like the annual flu shot, we need to get updated COVID-19 vaccines each year), and the vaccines we have now will not eliminate COVID-19 on their own. But they are still very effective at preventing serious illness and death, so
even though they are not the one quick
solution to the pandemic we all wish they
were, they are still extremely important,
and we should all stay up to date.

This week marked the anniversary of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve summarized our thoughts a bit below, but tl;dr: Unfortunately, COVID-19 is still with us, & although we may be tired of hearing about it, it’s extremely important to continue to take steps to protect ourselves & others.

A small pink rose with about 12 green petals is featured in front of a brown fence.

4 pink roses have bloomed this week on this little rose bush.

It’s even more special that you grow dahlias. I’m in Houston and I can’t get them to grow for me.

Meanwhile I have paid over $60k in school property taxes since I have bought my house so kids can get a good education. Texas unfortunately keeps cutting and cutting school funds making it harder and harder for public school to survive.

But alas, if we don’t get picked for vouchers this year odds are we won’t get them in the future bc families automatically get them for follow on years once chosen. You have to wait for a spot to open up.

I had to pull my child out of public school after 2nd grade - a mix of they stopped offering virtual options for pandemic safety and my neurodiverse child’s needs are met 100% better in a virtual safe environment at home. They thrive in safety and a quieter atmosphere.

Confusing school voucher rules block Texans from up to $30K Confusion over the program’s special education requirements is making it difficult for families to meet a looming deadline — and creating more work for Texas school districts.

They implanted school vouchers so that those who really need them can’t get them.

Besides major issue 👇 the application form also doesn’t take into account if you have lost your job and have no income this year bc you have to give old income tax data.

A cartoon of a senior couple walking a pet turtle on a leash. “Don’t let him pull…he has to learn to walk at our pace.”

Oh I love this so much. And for real - I feel a turtle walks faster than I do.

CONCLUSIONS
In our sample of 650,173 COVID cases among active-duty military personnel, a total of 278,278 were identified as having post-COVID-19 syndrome (42.8%). Of these, 273,405 reported post-COVID symptoms in at least two visits (42.1%). Our findings showed that the top three symptoms of post-COVID-19 syndrome in military personnel are related to pulmonary, neurological, and fatigue issues.
Mild to moderate cases of this syndrome could leave military personnel with long-term deficits in their overall fitness and readiness. This readiness is a critical aspect of military effectiveness, ensuring that personnel can respond rapidly and decisively to threats. Thus, continued assessment and potential treatments are needed to assist active-duty military personnel to improve their overall health outcomes.

Holy crap! Nearly 43% of active duty military who had Covid have long covid.

I really do think having a deregulated nervous system puts one at greater risk of long covid given the immense interaction between the immune and nervous systems.

And being in the military can do that to you.

‘Age Verification’ could force trans people to out themselves to use the internet Automated online ID checking systems add new potential dangers to having a mismatching ID.

For trans people, online resources and community are lifelines. The spread of age verification laws combined with anti-trans ID laws will block access to these lifelines. This is by design.
