HS History. Yes please!
We actually do US History in 10th, and they do American Lit in 11th...so in theory it'd be great to have them work together, but doesn't happen as of now. Good idea, though.
On the other hand, kids lose track of the causes & effects of American history, and the narrative/timeline of it as a whole, in ways that make me wonder if that weakness means they don't really retain the critical thinking they do around the themes in the long run.
No, that's all fair. On the one hand, I've loved the connections that students can make over time. For instance, we do a unit on Power & Equality, and ask Qs about who has power at different times, how does that dynamic change, how do people fight for equality, etc... that leads to really good stuff
Any US history teachers made the switch back from Thematic to Chronological? We’ve been Thematic for almost 15 years, but considering the move back.
I've been using their stuff for a while, and it's great (in particular, I use a lot of their stuff when teaching about the Middle East). We've done Department PD with them, too, which has been very good.
Hi folks. Finally making the transition over. I loved the community of educators and historians that once was, and hoping to rebuild that network here. Currently teaching: History of St. Louis, The Modern Middle East, and History of Human Rights & Genocide.
Yes please. Finally made the move over.
