Confusingly, not an ornithology account nor a dealer in seed, nuts or suet. Posts relate to Toronto's bird-named MLB team

16.03.2025 20:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't understand the Jays' hesitance to DH Varsho until he's ready to field. Hitting while continuing to rehab is what he's doing right now anyway. Who exactly do they think is a better option?
He's no great hitter or anything but he's the 4/5th best on this lackluster lineup
Clement has reverse splits and would be fine vs R. Just an example. Depends on how they plan to use Wagner, how he performs, and how 3B playing time slices up. Both could be in the lineup at once.
Lots of things in flux
As primarily a DH, it'd be strange spot to put a kid nearly brand new to MLB in but I don't know if there are many better options out there.
Canario? Stone Garrett?
Adding a Martinez to this lineup definitely gives it some more oomph. Still not sure who to put ahead of Vlad vs L
The Jays pretty obviously need another bat, especially vs L. A trade for a OF using the Jays' glut of IF/OF would be great but I don't see a fit that lines up easily
A solution could come in the form of a MartinezβJ.D. or Orelvis. More likely Orelvis.
Ideally vs R I'd have Vlad 2 but he likes hitting 3.
vs L, don't know who to put ahead of him. No appealing options currently. The Jays hit poorly against LHP last year.
-a ton of options vying for two open spots vs R.
Schneider vs L is in competition too
When Kirk is off, C hits 9th
I think #BlueJays lineups will be pretty variable, especially in the bottom half. Bo, Vlad, Santander will bat in the first four. Varsho/Gimenez could end up hitting pretty much anywhere. Springer probably shouldn't be batting high up anymore. Kirk, Clement, etc, 7-9
02.03.2025 16:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yarbrough had a solid year. Kinda surprising he couldn't land a MLB deal.
Maybe there's now other bargain deals (not necessarily MiLB deals) available for some of the other remaining free agents who could help the #BlueJays. E.g JD Martinez, Rizzo, Canha, Peralta
Well done. Just what they need to round out the bullpen and indirectly provide support to the rotationβand on a MiLB deal! Very tidy piece of work here
20.02.2025 23:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The #BlueJays budget has blasted so far beyond the early offseason reports
Someone convinced someone to open the financial floodgates
Nothing like a bunch of spending to spin straw into gold
30.01.2025 23:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0-So Ross phones me up and says, "We need more international bonus to get Sasaki" so I said "Sure, if you take Straw"
-Myles Straw?
-Bwahaha! Yup
-How much of his salary did you have to cover?
-Just a 1/4th of it!
-Haha what!?
-And then....THEY DIDN'T EVEN GET SASAKI HAHAHA
The #BlueJays have added ~$42M in new money for 2025 this offseason.
Yet:
-3B is a ?
-They only have 2 starting OFs (and 1 will miss the start of the season, the other is rapidly declining)
-DH is a ?
-No proven LHPs in 'pen and no LHP in rotation
-Need another SP
Yikes!
With Ohtani, they merely missed out, no harm done financially. This time, they paid $10M to finish second. It's hard to imagine any employee at any other workplace keeping their job after losing a $10M gamble with company money.
18.01.2025 11:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Try for a Matt Moore bounce back season?
Tyler Alexander as a swingman?
The pen is legit now but the #BlueJays do still lack a dependable lefty option. Little/Walker/Eisert are certainly fine to have in the mix + there's probably very little $ left to spend on the pen, but a small veteran signing would help shore things up.
Eg:
Coulombe
S Alexander
Rico Carty was the oldest living person to have played for the Blue Jays. With his passing today, I believe the oldest living Blue Jay is now Willie Horton
