“Our choice is not between war and peace but between life with dignity or without.”
Subcomandante Marcos, EZLN
Many words have been written about the deal of 9 October. Yet, this agreement is not an end but a fragile pause in a cycle of suffering that has lasted decades.

Civil society warns these measures undermine fundamental rights and normalize inhumane treatment at Europe’s borders. The call is clear: the European Parliament must reject these rules and uphold human rights.
More than 200 organisations have called on the European Parliament to reject new deportation rules. The proposal would expand detention, lower safeguards, and accelerate deportations, with devastating consequences for people seeking protection.

This is not just about Lesbos.
It’s about how migration is being managed—quietly, extra-legally, and far from scrutiny.
Read it. Share it.
Local opposition was bypassed.
Environmental protections were ignored.
Court decisions were sidestepped.
The report follows the timeline, the contracts, the justifications.
It traces how a “Closed Controlled Access Centre” was imposed where it wasn’t allowed.
The site was chosen after the 2020 uprising forced the government to suspend earlier plans.
Instead of cancelling them, they moved them out of sight.
The new report by Aegean Migrants Solidarity (AMS-CPT) documents the construction of the Vastria CCAC on Lesbos: a remote, high-capacity migrant facility, built right next to a protected forest.
HOW TO BUILD A DETENTION CENTER

The decisions by the Samos’ Court, sets a very important judicial precedence that could affect the future of many asylum seekers.
A day to celebrate, but a day also to reorganise for the next struggles.
Freedom of movement is everybody’s right!!!
The Greek penal system, unjustly confuses asylum seekers that were forced to drive the boats, with the smuggling networks, allowing for thousands to be imprisoned with sentences exceeding 50 years and hundreds of thousands of euros in fines.
Most of the people accused had already spent 6-10 months in prison on pre-trial detention, but now they will be able to complete their asylum applications and seek safety and a new start.
The court accepted the claim filled by the defence lawyers, pointing at the Greek Migration Regulation, which identifies that people seeking international protection cannot be charged for smuggling themselves or fellow asylum seekers.
Thanks to the great effort by @hrlpsamos.bsky.social and fellow lawyers, 11 young men who were charged for illegal transportation of third country nationals who do not have the permission to enter the national territory of Greece were acquitted.
In what may prove an historic day for justice, the Appeal Court of Samos accepted what was obvious for everyone else. Asylum seekers are not smugglers.
