June 18, 2025. Masa. Northern Nigerian delicacy made from rice. Had lots of good masa while at NIPSS for my last sabbatical and wanted some. Best strategy for authenticity: make it myself. Dr. Gbemisola Abiola, my younger colleague who'd done fieldwork in Northern Nigeria helped. Turned out great.

I'm from Pittsburgh and went to CMU, which is close to the WQED studio where his show was done.
Met him a few times and he was the same person off camera that he was on camera. Sweet person.
His mother made all his sweaters. An ordained minister.
Always look for the helpers.
Miss him.

If you haven't seen Sinners yet, I recommend highly. On Prime video & HBO. Truly, Madly, Deeply (1990) is worth renting on Prime. It's great. Pleasantville on Prime. A fave of mine. Sunset Blvd (1950) on Prime. I'm giving you some of my favorites here. I hope you check out some of all of them.
