Amazing how many of my students love to cite the well-known text the author wrote that we're NOT using in class instead of the lesser-known text we ARE using for class that I've also lectured from all semester.

Why in the world would they do such a thing???

Oh wait...AI think AI know.... <sigh>

Trump Admin Bans Coverage For Trans Govt Employees, Mandates Conversion Therapy Coverage The OPM memo states that all health plans for government workers must cover faith-based approaches to gender dysphoria while banning gender affirming care coverage.

This is horrific - and predictable. Trump and the Republicans are making it harder to be anything other than white, male, cishet....

What I read: "God's Monsters" by Esther J. Hamori. Just finished it two nights ago, and I loved it.

This book breaks down the portrayals of monsters you'll find in the Bible - and how several of them are actually employed by God to do God's will.

Highly recommend.

The Trevor Project is incredibly important. I have met several people at my events who were *alive* because of The Trevor Project.

A little feminist inspiration for your week: Feminism isn't about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It's about changing the way the world perceives that strength. -G.D. Anderson

Texas’ Ten Commandments rule shows sharia law is closer than we think | Opinion Somehow, our leaders suggest it isn’t a theocracy if the right people force you to comply with their religious views.

As I said the other day (and apparently lost several followers from it!), the United States is quickly evolving into a theocratic state. That thin wall between state and church is nonexistent anymore - and that should terrify every person of every religion.

Trump administration says federal employees can encourage co-workers to "re-think" their religious beliefs Federal employees can talk about religion at work, including by encouraging coworkers to "re-think" their own beliefs, a memo said Monday.

Your all-too-frequent reminder that the United States is now living comfortably in the realm of a theocracy - a government controlled by a religious group. Specifically, Christianity is taking over, and Evangelicals are cheering.

"Here Am I, Send Me": Department Of Homeland Security Releases New Video Using Bible Verse [WATCH] - The Christian Tribune The Department of Homeland Security received a mixed response for a viral promotional video they released for their Border Protection division, which features

A DHS video quoting the Bible and playing Johnny Cash.

When law enforcement becomes religious enforcement, we're all screwed. THIS is what I meant every time I warned of theocracy in the United States.

IRS lifts ban on churches getting involved in politics and endorsements: What to know The decision reverses the longtime policy established by the so-called Johnson Amendment in 1954.

The wall separating church and state (as shabbily built as it might have been!) has just had a HUUUUGE hole punched through it.

A free YA ebook showed up in my Nook queue today, and it looked like fun. I added it to my cart, hit "checkout," and was immediately stopped by the 2-factor authentication sending me a code.

If someone is hacking into my Nook account to send me a free book, just let them do it. You know? Hah!

LGBTQ stories are important, writes Father James Martin in wake of Supreme Court ruling - Outreach Jesus not only reached out to those on the margins—one of his most famous stories, the Parable of the Good Samaritan, was a story about someone from a hated group.

To be blunt, this Pride Month has been absolutely shitty for LGBTQ+ rights. As demonstrated by yet another drain-circling ruling by our illustrious SCOTUS, when empathy is deemed offensive, minority groups get erased.

Today is Juneteenth, the 165th anniversary of the announcement by Union General Gordon Granger to the people of Galveston, TX, that all enslaved people were free!

Equality is still imperfect (note the obstacles that still remain) but today marks a significant first step. Let's keep moving forward.

Day-job complaint: It's hard not to think AI was somehow involved in the writing of students' final project research proposals when at least 1/3 of the students correctly propose using a stat (Pearson's r) we never even covered in class

Got this in the mail from a local funeral home.

Is this just random advertising, or is the universe trying to send me a message? I don't think I'm that old yet...or am I? Should I disregard this, or would that be at my own peril?

I mean...yikes?

Just finished S1 E3, "Long, Long Time," of "The Last of Us" and OMG is that an incredible episode! You watch them meet, fall in love, live their lives together and grow - and all the while, you know that they've succeeded beyond measure: loving and living for each other. That is powerful writing

I love the gusto with which Sheetz advertises its cafe. "Handmade drinks! Only $2!"

Dude, this is not 1768. Your neighbor, Mr Cobbler, did not spend the last 10 hours measuring and cutting and sewing to make you a brand new pair of shoes. It's pre-measured ingredients in a plastic cup. 😆
