64 400 000 needles & syringes were distributed by community NSPs in 2024/25 up from zero 40 years ago. So much harm reduction. In prisons, instead we have harm production policies for lack of the same courage and political will. Shameful stuff.

I once heard about a young doctor who started distributing clean needles to help prevent an HIV epidemic despite the law prohibiting such action. Convincing police to tacitly condone it and a Liberal govt to change the legislation must have seemed insurmountable. Such courage. We owe that guy a lot.
