Acorn worm โข Animals of the Deep โข MBARI
Acorn worms move along the deep seafloor feasting on organic material and locking away carbon from the oceanโs surface.
โEnteropneusts are actually more closely related to humans than to worms. They have a rudimentary nerve cord similar to ours and breathe oxygen using structures similar to a fishโs gills,โ according to @mbarinews.bsky.social.

This week we had a โWaitโฆ is that coral?โ moment.
At first glance, that icy fan shape seems coral-like. We think this might be in the genus Walteria, a type of glass sponge (Phylum Porifera). These sponges come in all shapes and sizes, so even experts can find it challenging to identify them. 1/4
