I’ve been occasionally breaking down into a mess throughout the day, but I am finding solace in the 4+ hours of conversation I recorded with Itagaki-san last year for a book we were working on together. They were his development memoirs, and I will do everything in my power to bring this to life.

It has been reported that former Koei Tecmo Designer Tomonobu Itagaki passed away at the age of 58.

Extremely sad.

Itagaki's passing hits hard, man. Dead Or Alive in particular means so much to me as a franchise, it had such a profound impact on me as the first fighting game I ever really took seriously enough to start competing in.

DOA4 is the fighting game that taught me how to play fighting games.

One surprising thing I noticed about the Brandish 1 box, though: the blurb is written by none other than Koei founder Kou Shibusawa. I dunno if he did that often, but considering this is a port of another company's PC game, it perhaps says a lot about how personally invested he was in its success.

It's been about 12 hours, which means... it's time to Brandishpost. Anyway, I finally own both SNES 1 and 2 in earnest after months of searching. The boxes are a bit more beat up than I'd normally go for, but they were sold together for about what 2 goes for CIB alone, so it was an easy decision. 😌

And another thing! You blatant Genesisists! "I'll never even let my ears hear the version of Uncharted Waters New Horizons OST." So I listened to them both back to back. The SNES version is definitely superior, but the Genesis version is very well made facsimile. KOEI knows what they're doing.
