Terrifying and sad, 242 people on board.
I just flew with Air India on a similar route 2 days back.

Greta Thunberg in a keffiyeh speaking aboard the FFC aid ship end route to Gaza

I know there was a lot going on in American politics today, but I wanted to take a moment to highlight how much I admire the work that Greta Thunberg and the Freedom Flotilla are doing.

They're sailing an aid ship across the Mediterranean to Gaza right now, despite lacking Israeli permission.

Project: Modelling and Interpretation of Exoplanetary Atmospheres

Theme: Astrophysics

Supervisor: Dr Ryan MacDonald (rm400@st-andrews.ac.uk)

Description: Our knowledge of exoplanet atmospheres is undergoing a paradigm change following the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). High-quality spectroscopic observations of exoplanet atmospheres necessitate a careful reassessment of model assumptions that were sufficient in the pre-JWST era, in order to ensure the reliable inference of atmospheric properties (e.g. the chemical composition, temperature profile, and aerosol properties).

In this MSc (res) project, you will investigate new ways to improve state-of-the-art models of exoplanet spectra. You will also have the opportunity to apply these models to JWST observations of giant exoplanets, which will allow you to measure the atmospheric properties of worlds around other stars.

The Guardian has an 'explainer' about the India-Pakistan conflict that manages to avoid stating that the border between the countries was originally drawn by an Englishman who had never been to India and signed off on in a hurry by Lord Mountbatten because he had to get back to Britain for a party.

Will stop paying me when I hand in my PhD thesis, then block me from doing the temporary full-time job I found - until viva, corrections, and getting the degree in hand.

Next up is @riobanerjee.bsky.social talking about oddball planet L98-59d - a possibly rocky world orbiting an M dwarf. Transit spectroscopy observations with JWST reveal hints of sulphur species SO2 and H2S in the atmosphere, indicating potential volcanic activity on a possible exo-Io. #ukexom25
