The EPA 2009 “endangerment finding” has been officially repealed.
If left unchallenged, this removes federal obligation to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and will dismantle critical legal frameworks that support national environmental and climate programs against carbon emissions, and drastically reduce public accountability against industrial polluters.
Publicly available environmental data overwhelmingly support the lived realities of our community partners: greenhouse gas emissions from burning and extracting fossil fuels impose compounding costs of healthcare, electricity, insurance, and food, increase socioeconomic inequities, and degrade our natural environment
The Environmental Equity Information Institute joins other environmental, health, and climate justice organizations across the country in urging greater investment in building the capacity of environmental justice communities to understand and respond to toxic pollution challenges.
Deregulating federal emissions standards and dismantling taxpayer-funded information infrastructure does not change our shared climate reality.

Since March 2023, E2I2 has delivered data visualization, data-powered tools, and customized training to 19 organizational partners in 7 states throughout the South and Mid-Atlantic region.
Environmental data in community hands cannot be hidden, erased, or censored.
Our Vision 2030 is our strategic plan to continue expanding data access for communities tackling environmental and climate challenges in the Southeast.
Alternative data systems ensure that federal cuts and rollbacks do not erase decades of environmental progress in communities that share the highest pollution and climate burden.
When people understand what is
in their air, water, and soil, they
gain the power to protect it.
Data infrastructure, when designed with community needs in mind, reduces existing disparities in information access and encourages active participation in environmental decision-making.
Our five-year plan expands the work that E2I2 has done for over three decades in making data accessible and actionable for environmental justice communities.
Here’s our roadmap to 2030.

Vision 2030 — Environmental Equity Information Institute
E2I2 is expanding our Southeastern network of solar-powered, customized, community air monitors. Here’s why:
According to the EPA, there are over 10,000 regulated air monitors in the US. Only 5,000 of them are currently active. (1)
Studies indicate that regulatory air monitor networks are not evenly distributed, especially in communities overburdened by hazardous air pollution. (2)
EPA air monitors typically do not monitor for individual hazardous chemicals of concern, leaving communities in the dark about harmful pollutants.

FULL POST:
Citizen scientists play a vital role in documenting water quality and pollution issues, keeping their communities and water monitoring networks informed about local water sources. This World Water Monitoring Day, we're highlighting the importance of ensuring communities have the training, tools, and resources needed to collect, interpret, and act on water quality data.
In places with poor water infrastructure and ongoing contamination issues, citizen monitoring programs keep water data transparent and accessible for those who need it most.
When communities can be involved in environmental protection, they’re empowered to take an active role in safeguarding their most precious resources.

Trump admin must restore health data, websites, per WA lawsuit settlement
The Trump administration has agreed to restore more than 100 health and science datasets and webpages that federal agencies wiped earlier this year.
Outstanding news for all of us working at the intersection of environmental and public health. Public health data is critical to improving the quality of life of our neighbors. To build a sustainable future, these tools must remain fully accessible to everyone. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Federal cuts to publicly available environmental and health data leaves communities in the dark. That’s where E2I2 comes in.
With your help, we can continue to bridge the gap between environmental data access and our community partners. Make an impact with us today.

Community air monitoring closes a critical environmental data gap while empowering communities impacted by hazardous pollution. See how we're putting more air pollution data into community hands and build data democracy with us. [www.e2i2.org]

Under proposed regulatory rollbacks, clean air protections may become weaker and access to community level data more difficult.

According to the EPA, while there are over 10,000 regulated air monitors in the US, only 5,000 are currently active.*map for illustrative purposes only.

Studies indicate that regulatory air monitoring networks are not evenly distributed, especially in communities overburdened by hazardous air pollution.
[Image: Illustration of two people, a white person and a brown person, standing in front of two groups of apples. One group of apples is evenly distributed, and the other group is sparse, with only four.]

In the event of prolonged exposure to an uncommon air pollutant, these same communities often have to rely on inadequate data to make an intervention plan.
Examples of inadequate data
Incomplete data: (image is an apple poorly drawn with a red crayon)
Old Data: (image is an illustration of a rotten apple)
Insufficient air quality monitoring coverage makes it even harder to respond to air pollution threats, especially during emergencies such as chemical accidents.

Building a robust community air monitoring network would close a critical environmental data gap and enable communities to:
✊Respond to long-term air pollution
🚨React to events like chemical accidents
👥 Protect local health & prevent environmental degradation
