I'm experimenting with a longer form screen sound newsletter on Buttondown (I'm hearing dubious things about Substack). My first piece is available to read here, and if you like it you can subscribe. The formatting is basic - not sure if I'll be able to add audio, but learning as I go...

Finally watched this last week, and realised I had seen it decades before, but barely remembered it. Very much enjoyed the Devon scenery/electronic music/supernatural mystery crossover.

Wonderful release out today on Buried Treasure. I had the pleasure of writing a short essay for the CD sleevenotes too.

Tend to avoid venerable acts paying tribute to their youth, but couldn't resist The Saints in Bristol last night. And what a show it was. Ed Kuepper one of the last great guitar heroes.

A book cover shows a man in profile. He is white with curly dark hair and his eyes appear closed. Is he singing or performing?
Iβve been discovering David Ackles via Mark Brendβs beautifully-written biography. Down River (2025) details the curious recording career of a relatively unknown US singer songwriter in the late 60s & early 70s. Elton John was a fan. Sadly, no #PubLibs are featured in the biog. Excellent otherwise.

according to digital distributors CD Baby, "Last year, 87% of tracks uploaded to streaming platforms didnβt reach 1,000 streams.". Phew. If that's true, then 87% of tracks played on Spotify last year got ZERO streaming payment from Spotify. (they only pay out if you reach 1000) 87%!!!!! π±π‘
