Ho-fung Hung: Developing countries welcome Chinese investment, more than imports of Chinese finished goods. They are largely aligned with China's desire for a multipolar world. But their industries are very worried that trade will deliver a China shock and deindustrialize them.

GUEST POST: We Are Professors at Columbia. Here is How We Would Respond. Five Columbia University political scientists offer their unofficial response to the Trump administration's demands on their university.

This is how it’s done: @profsaunders.bsky.social and several colleagues at Columbia have suggested text for their university to respond to the Trump administration. Kudos to @dandrezner.bsky.social for posting danieldrezner.substack.com/p/guest-post...

This is unfathomably cruel, unnecessary, and stupid. Which can be said of so many things since January 20. But this is outside these senators’ windows.

It was an honor to be invited by @jessicacweiss.bsky.social to participate in this report on US-China relations. My contribution focuses on US-China labor tensions. After describing them, I propose each government use the International Labor Organization (ILO) to mediate.

Exclusive | Xi Jinping Muzzles Chinese Economist Who Dared to Doubt GDP Numbers Gao Shanwen questioned Beijing’s ability to boost its economy as threats loom from a property meltdown and burgeoning debt.

This @wsj.com piece on China going after economists for not being positive about the economy intersects with the @himself.bsky.social essay on the platforms degrading democratic republics. It's harder to foster trust and positive directionality than it is to sow chaos.
