US-China trade truce: how did we get here and what comes next?
Grateful to Ana Swanson (NYT) and SAIS Institute for America, China, and the Future of Global Affairs faculty affiliates Jonas Nahm Ling Chen and Ho-fung Hung for this terrific discussion.
Watch: youtu.be/6QXqQMsfY0Y?...
Ho-fung Hung: Developing countries welcome Chinese investment, more than imports of Chinese finished goods. They are largely aligned with China's desire for a multipolar world. But their industries are very worried that trade will deliver a China shock and deindustrialize them.

This is unfathomably cruel, unnecessary, and stupid. Which can be said of so many things since January 20. But this is outside these senators’ windows.
Thanks @kaiserkuo.bsky.social for featuring ACF’s launch on the Sinica podcast! Great comments from Andy Kim on the current moment and China policy: www.sinicapodcast.com/p/getting-ch...

Responding to China strategically requires getting China right. New report out to help do just that, from the just-launched Institute for America, China, and the Future of Global Affairs at SAIS.
I have one small part in this great compilation of China policy ideas for the launch of the SAIS Institute for America, China, and the Future of Global Affairs. Thanks and congrats @jessicacweiss.bsky.social!
It was an honor to be invited by @jessicacweiss.bsky.social to participate in this report on US-China relations. My contribution focuses on US-China labor tensions. After describing them, I propose each government use the International Labor Organization (ILO) to mediate.

This @wsj.com piece on China going after economists for not being positive about the economy intersects with the @himself.bsky.social essay on the platforms degrading democratic republics. It's harder to foster trust and positive directionality than it is to sow chaos.
