I can't tell you how disgusted I am by Labour today. This policy is despicable, and the idea of taking what few valuables people have to cover 'processing costs' sounds like something Himmler would have said. Taking their jewellery: what next, gold teeth?

I'd love to see a Death's-head Hawk-moth. Plenty of bindweed, but never to my knowledge a Convolvulus moth.

Oh, we have all sorts up there. Lots of hummingbird hawkmoths and scarlet tiger moths this year.

In a break in the torrential rain, I went up to the Allotment by the Sea and was rewarded by finding this beautiful rare Crimson Speckled Flunkey (what a name!) taking shelter in one of the dahlias. They come from North Africa: must be a bit shellshocked by Cornwall in November. #garden #moth

I know they bloom in November, but they are supposed to be planted in June in order to do so (rather than just 10 days before), and often won't bloom in the first year. Husband is from Moroccan saffron-growing area and is amazed.

Nope, they're from the Netherlands!

There's no way in a normal universe these should bloom within 10 days of planting 😱

Writing a historical mystery centring on the 18th c. growing of saffron in Cornwall, so thought I'd try for myself. Idly bought some corms (late) in Oct (should have been June). Planted Oct 27... Yesterday:

Yesterday, I was writing a very difficult chapter (will require trigger warnings) while sheltering from showers on the allotment. Today, wielding a sledgehammer to bang in stakes to repair the raised beds. My brain aches; my arms ache. Can you believe I'm still picking ripe tomatoes in November? 💙📚
