Some of the bottles of rice and formula and flour Egyptians threw into the sea have actually made it to Gaza - now people in Cyprus and Lebanon are joining the effort, with scientists from all over the world virtually assisting them in figuring the time and location to do so based on the currents. πŸ’š

NEW: Bob Geldof lets rip over Gaza genocide.

PRESENTER: "Isn’t it a bit unfair to say this is the Israelis as a whole?"

GELDOF: "Stop it Trevor. If Israelis want to protest, get in your cars. Stuff your cars full of food & drive through that border. Let your own army stop you. Shame on you.”

Without immediate intervention, the last reporters in Gaza will die
July 21, 2025

AFP has been working with 1 writer, 3 photographers and 6 videographers, all freelance, in the Gaza Strip since its staff journalists left in 2024.

Along with a few others, they are now the only ones left to report what is happening in the Gaza Strip. The international press has been banned from entering the territory for nearly two years.

We refuse to watch them die.

One of them, Bashar, has been working with AFP since 2010, first as a fixer, then freelance photographer, and since 2024, as lead photographer. On July 19th he managed to post a message on Facebook: β€œI no longer have the strength to work for the media. My body is thin and I can’t work anymore.”

Bashar, 30, works & lives in the same conditions as all Gazans, moving from one refugee camp to another under Israeli bombings. For > a year he’s lived in utter destitution, working at extreme risk to his life. Hygiene is a major issue for him, with recurring bouts of severe intestinal illness.

Since Feb, Bashar’s been living in the ruins of his home in Gaza City with his mother, 4 brothers & sisters and the family of one of his brothers. Their house is devoid of any furnishings, except a few cushions. On Sunday morning, he reported that one of his brothers had β€œfallen, due to hunger.”

Even though these journalists receive a monthly salary from AFP, it’s no longer enough to buy food, or they have to pay completely exorbitant prices. The banking system has collapsed, and those who exchange money via online bank accounts charge a commission of up to 40%.

AFP no longer has the ability to provide them with a vehicle and there is not enough fuel to allow these journalists to travel for their reporting. Driving a car means becoming a target for Israeli airstrikes. AFP reporters therefore travel on foot or by donkey cart. (alt txt continued in next post)

A horrifying statement published today by the Editorial Committee of the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency.

South Gaza: Tents, Food & Water **With Famine on the rise, we will significantly lower tent purchases and focus on food (rice and bread) and water over the next couple of weeks**

We have three urgent requests today:

1. Contribute to a trusted org or individual fundraiser. Don't keep scrolling..

We know that the many requests can get overwhelming - like your contribution won't make a dent. But we have strength in numbers.

Here is one: chuffed.org/project/1132...

I am full of a horrible dread and grief because of who it's too late for and what's coming.

But we don't have to fail everyone.
There are so many precious lives we could act to save and care for.

we should invite them in, feel our way towards them, & identify what it is they are motivating us to do. I think they lead us to courage, rage, & the kind of sacred care for life which gives our bodies the best ideas for what to do next. I hope we can save as many of our comrades as possible. (2/)

It couldn't be clearer now that no more analysis is needed. All of the people in Gaza reaching a starvation point of no return. What we need is courage and fight. I wrote this because I am trying to figure out how we find it, together. Desperation & grief at this horror are rooting into us (1/)

Our governments are forcing us to watch Palestinians starve to death

A bipartisan endeavor

We kept saying genocide and it has been and also that can make it hard to appreciate this is a new level to it

Mass, irreversible starvation

When we told our Death Panel listeners that we were having a baby, hundreds of people wrote in to say some version of the same thing: that knowing, loving & raising children had further radicalized them. That it exposed how much of the world is built to punish vulnerability and make care impossible.

The earth is big. Water is powerful. Fire too. Also viruses.

Exponential growth can take things from tiny warnings to unmanageable problems pretty darn quick.

The human is tiny and 100% dependent on the living planet.

I hope through new opportunities to relate to each other and think about care, in these stark & scary times, defectors will abound. (3/3)

To that end, I keep coming back to the metaphor in Health Communism that capitalism is a parasite on health, which pollutes & distorts the idea (2/)

This talk was a highlight of the conference for me, in particular the resonant insistence that we *know* what care is (what it feels like), even though we're not getting it from the places that promise it.

@reallandsend.bsky.social emphasized the need to recruit defectors from healthcare. As a (1/)

Anyway gonna shut it down for the night. Yes that man is hurting people and will continue to do so but he's deeply unpopular and is going to be more so. It's up to us to show actual solidarity with the most vulnerable and to do what we can from where we are to fight back. No throwing ppl under buses

If you hit me in the face repeatedly until I fight back, because you want to put some narrative spin on my defensive efforts, letting you beat the shit out of me isn't some genius solution. (Anyone who thinks otherwise has never had the shit beaten out of them.)

Some of the BS takes we're seeing are also what a near-religious belief in criminalization gets you. All of the "no one is above the law" BS (um, have you noticed that, yes, some people fucking are?) is a fetishization. People think we're going to upstandingly cooperate our way out of fascist rule.

Until recently I hadn't read "Scapegoat," a book that is never mentioned in the now 6-year-long Dworkin revival going on (even though it seems in many ways to be her magnum opus). It's the book where Dworkin finally says what she thinks women should do. The answer she comes up with may surprise you.
