You should get mad at the camera people on the evil reality show man’s set. They shouldn’t work there or help him produce his spectacle. But asking “why aren’t the camera people telling their boss his show is bad” seems to miss the character of the dynamic entirely.

Not giving journalists a pass here or anything, or even saying that different journalists being present would challenge Trump in a meaningful way. I’m just saying, it’s not at all a mystery why the media in Trump’s vicinity acts the way it does. It’s the cost of admission.

When folks ask “why don’t reporters ever ask Trump challenging questions” are they being rhetorical? Because at this point it seems pretty obvious that he doesn’t let anyone who will get anywhere near him.

Little dog finally gets to live her life without a cone, but she’s still on bedrest and is sooooo bored. Poor thing 😭 her fur is starting to grow back, but she’s a lot colder outside than she’s had to be before.

Every morning I wake up without symptoms I’m both a little surprised and very grateful for mitigation techniques and PPE. Hope it all keeps holding for me. Not eager to learn what getting sick on my immunosuppressants feels like.

My partner has been sick for three days now and I’m glad that the 3 covid tests (1 of which was a pcr) and 1 flu test came back negative, but I’m on immunosuppressants and nervous about any potential infection! Masking all the time and isolating and running air filters. Wish us luck 🤞😷

Its more than just a barrier, its an actual cost. There are risks to doing it that could actually leave you worse off than before, it doesn't just impede progress. People lose jobs when they reveal a dx and ask for accommodations. In the US, that means losing health care too.

This is the same man who told me to describe my suicidal ideations to him in detail, expand on my lack of self worth, played down being sexually assaulted by the NHS and questioned why - not how - I remained sober after I mentioned being a recovering cocaine addict

this also helps solidify a class divide in disability rights. Often, "proving" you are disabled requires a clinical report - and those are often very expensive. In many countries (even some with public health) they are not covered for adults...which means you effectively have to buy accommodations.

And no, I don’t give a single good goddamn whether some ppl “cheat the system.” Every human deserves to have their needs met. We have enough to care for everyone, and we’re currently wasting billions on bombs and AI. Maybe focus on that waste instead

No one should have to prove that they need help, care, and the supports they need to be successful. They deserve it because they are a human being in need, and they asked! Means testing is bullshit, and it’s cop behavior toward vulnerable ppl.

This mindset of scarcity and elitism are prime feeders of capitalism and exploitation. If we actually want a world where people thrive, we build one that is accessible to and usable by ppl no matter their age, disability, gender, or other factors.

But that doesn’t make billionaires money 🤷🏻‍♀️

Disabled ppl already face a world that ostracizes and demeans them. Making them prove disability to access what everyone else automatically can is absolute garbage ethics and policy.

The world will not end if everyone gets as much time as they need to take a test or free medical care!

By forcing ppl to prove a need for accommodations, to “prove” a disability, we’re implying that disability is a flaw rather than evidence of biodiversity/diversity. The premise is built on ableism. Universal design is the antidote.

This is very true. I’m a union steward, and when I guide people to accommodations I am careful to frame it as being for “any disability or other health issue of any duration”. Employees are a lot more open to that framing than when I described it as a disability of any duration.

YEP! I’m over a year into the process of applying for disability benefits and one of their assessors literally tore the labrum in my hip 🫠 still had to go to appeal and go to hearing. The barriers are constant and violent.

This is the ethos behind universal design! Instead of patching things with accommodations, universal design posits that we create things that are accessible to as many people as possible from their conception. This is, as Lee mentions in the thread, ultimately beneficial to everyone, disabled or not
