That's very true!
But also I'm saving up four a new tattoo, and that's maybe a more valid place to spend the money.
There are so many layers of privilege here that unpacking it would double the size of garbage island.
The FUCKING Phantom Tollbooth
I'm really proud of the layered joke in the ebook goblin. She's a modified version of the book goblin, but distinctly more femme, as if she'd gotten her hands on some estradiol.
So she's not just an ebook goblin, she's an e-bookgoblin.
Why would you hold this cursed mirror up to my life in such a way? What insult have I lobbed your way to warrant such vicious reprisal?
Thanks to a random pun reference "Prisoner of Zenda" -->"Prisoner of Gender," I went down a rabbit hole into the Ruritanian romance genre. Which then raised the question:
Can the "The Princess Diaries" be considered a modern interpretation of the Ruritanian romance tradition?

Getting strong Ozymandias vibes from this, too.
"Look upon my works, ye mighty, and sits."
"Actually, I'm a prisoner of gender."
The exploration and immersion in Z-A is ass, is what I'm saying.
I don't want to escape and immerse myself in a bland, crowded, maze-like city full of people. That's what I'm escaping/immersing myself away FROM.
So i really want to get Pokopia, but I haven't finished Pokemon Z-A legends, and I feel like I should finish the game before I get a new game.
The problem is that Pokemon Z-A has felt like SUCH a slog. I don't enjoy running around a city full of identical buildings and indiscernible zones.
And I'm gonna push back on this, too. Part of the benefit of teams is that if an individual forgets something, there are other people to catch it.
To not have Nick come up for months of development means every single dev didn't read past line 2 on a wiki description of DanDan.
There is a 0% chance that Nick's name didn't come up during the entire planning and development of this secret lair. The devs absolutely considered crediting him, and someone in corporate (hasbro) said no.
Hasbro is part of the reason Nick is getting credit now, if only because they relented.
There's a lot to unpack here, and none of it needs to be.
Definitely goals!
See you again 🌿 #art #illustration
It’s the only way.
Corporations don’t have feelings. They will always default to what is most profitable for them. Pressure must be kept on them to have any hope of change.
Now that I’ve had time to sleep on it, I’m actively angry at it. It was like “what if Ready Player One” but with fractured fairy tale tropes.”
*all telling, no showing. Sorry, I’m not used to writing 2am book reviews.
Here’s a drawing I did in my sketchbook of an AI data center burning. Pen and ink on paper.
I’m a sucker for goblins and @oranjessie.bsky.social’s “How to Lose a Goblin in Ten Days” got me. It’s an adorable femme/non-binary romance. And despite the book itself not being very horny, the attraction between the characters is SO VERY present. Also loved the inversion of the Hobbit narrative!
Is there a name for a type of sexuality or a kink (I dunno wether it's first or second) when you are attracted to a person doing something skillfully, with lots of mastery, and you see the divine sparkle of creative talent shaped by work through their actions?
Because that's what I have.
You have no idea how wonderful it is to hear another person express this!
I kept feeling like a weirdo or snooty for being like “I love watching him write and talk about the craft of writing.” It’s this thrill of seeing artists go, and I thought I was being snooty for being attracted to artists.
Okay THIS is awesome. @julieleong.bsky.social ‘s Keeper of Magical things reminded me of all the things I loved about Tamora’s Pierce’s Circle of Magic books (everyday magic) with one of my favorite aspects of Discworld book (earnest, ordinary people). Cute and sweet and magical and rich! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Viv is not an interesting character. Baldree’s writing a whole second book with her (a prequel by the way, which isn’t established at all in the opening, so you get to scramble around trying to figure out what happened to all the characters previously—yay) and she’s still incredibly bland.
Very much enjoyed @andieburke.bsky.social’s “With Stars in Her Eyes!” Heartfelt, fun characters, no weird contrivances, and believable motivations. I think my favorite thing was how fleshed out the characters were. They weren’t dolls for the plot to spin around but had their own voices and needs. <3
Okay NOPE. Ry Herman’s style is convoluted sentences with maximum fairy tale reference density. It’s like if you did Enchanted Forest Chronicles but with all the finesse of a latter-era Xanth novel. It’s all showing, no telling. Got three chapters in and had to bail.
*salutes* I'm doing my best!
If given the choice of "mystery potion that might turn me into a reptilian monster" or "living a life never acknowledging my true self," I'm picking monster potion every time.
They had to be publicly shamed, loudly and repeatedly, from fans and some of the biggest names in the community, just so they would give credit to the creator of the format. These fucking guys.
Must make line go up for Corporate Daddy.
