Students don’t know how cool it is when they tell you, “You’re my favorite teacher,” or “This is my favorite class; I don’t even want to skip it.”

I take a lot of pride in my teaching, and the positive affirmations I get from the students are so rewarding. I’m thankful.

Applying for a grant from the state Board of Regents and the university has required me to jump through so many hurdles to complete it that I don't even care about it anymore. The university needs to be removed from the individual grant process. #AcademicSky #PhDSky

I suffered creatively for years after starting my PhD program. I couldn’t put together a sonnet without it being a chore. I am so happy that my creativity has returned since I started writing my book. Writing about hip-hop makes me whole. I am in love with the process.
