That much of American media still can’t muster the word genocide - even while watching hundreds in our profession be targeted and slaughtered for *doing journalism* …

Like most journalists I am more open minded than many lay people about who should count as a journalist. However anyone who apologizes for or even seeks to nuance Israel’s systematic assassination of Palestinian journalists is off the list

that it's genocide is glaringly horrifyingly obvious for many reasons but i'm always struck by the numbers of deaths in specific subgroups of people - Israel has killed *321 footballers alone* . how can you see that number & think it doesn't point to Israel inflicting mass, mass death?

so galling to head up org that's suggested people who charge Israel w/ genocide are antisemitic, & then NOT know the definition of genocide offhand??? & also to head up org devoted to preventing atrocities of the Holocaust from repeating but ... not having a working definition of genocide???

remarkable moment in NYT Greenblatt interview when he's asked if it's genocide, & he's like "i don't have definition in front of me" so reporter recites UN definition he says "in fairness, I haven’t read it like you have before this" and then....

he immediately denies it's a genocide!
