Physicist establishes new methods for use in forensic medicine Claudia Lenz’s MRI method extends detection of strangulation injuries, strengthening forensic evidence in violent crime cases.

Just a few days after the crime – that is usually how long signs of strangulation can be detected. But research by @claudialenz.bsky.social shows that this timeframe needs to be reconsidered: internal injuries can be detected with MRI for much longer than previously thought – up to 12 days.

Portrait of oceanographer Marie Tharp in her older years with white curly hair, smiling gently at the camera. She sits beside a large, colorful painted globe and in front of world ocean floor maps on the wall. She wears a dark patterned top with a brooch. Marie Tharp in her younger years, standing at a drafting table and painting one of her pioneering hand-drawn physiographic maps of the North Atlantic Ocean floor. A globe sits nearby; natural light comes through the window. She is focused on her work with brush in hand.

Water, Fire, and Lightning: The Life of Laura Bassi, the First Woman Professor of Science. It's April of 1732, and the hot ticket in Bologna is not an opera, a play, or a beheading, but rather that most mundane of things: a lengthy thesis defense, in Latin. Routine stuff, except this time ...

Physicist Laura Bassi was born 314 years ago today. Her thesis defense in 1732 was a major social event which led to her getting hired by the University of Bologna as a paid lecturer. Here is her story!

Here’s the original clip of Ronald Reagan from April 25, 1987, where he delivered a complete and total rebuke against tariffs. Trump's calling Reagan’s words here “FAKE” and “fraudulent.” They’re 100% real. And the original clip is actually far worse for Trump, as much is left out of the ad:

The SNSF urges against cuts In its statement on "Relief Package 27", the SNSF speaks out against the proposed annual cuts of 10 percent.

The Federal Council wants to cut costs in the ERI sector despite widespread objections. Cuts of over 10 percent per year are planned for the SNSF over the next few years. Above all, this plan jeopardises the innovation potential and competitiveness of the Swiss economy. ⤵️ www.snf.ch/en/9a7Fhnojt...

Are distant exoplanets really ocean worlds? 🌍✨
New ETH Zurich research shows they’re much drier than believed — with only limited water on their surfaces. This changes how we search for habitable planets and suggests Earth may not be so unique after all.
