Honestly gave Dune vibes, but on was forest mountain. Feels like a world that could turn into Pern (maybe that's what I should read, just looking for something a bit more mature). Just started the Coldfire trilogy, but it's a but more high fantasy than I'm looking for.
Started Planet Savers by Marion Zimmer, and was excited to dive into the whole #Darkover series, but then I took a gander at her wiki and now I'm looking for something else that checks the same boxes.
Swashbuckling pulpy exploration adventure and wizards in space.

So far, the orders been Chapter 1 >Aulë and Yavanna >Durin's Folk (stopping where Thorin meets Gandalf, of course)>Chapter 2
I think Tuor and Fall of Gondolin next to learn about Glamdring and Orcrist?
I'm also reading Dragons of Autumn Twilight on the side so it's gonna take a while
Just finished chapter one, love Tolkein's tangents; particularly the one about golf.
Love his note that in modern English, the only acceptable plural of dwarf is dwarfs.
Need to read the dwarf creation story from Silmarillion. Doesn't seem like there's anything else on Azog the Goblin.
At one point, I wanted to read Tolkein's legendarium in chronological order, but I just don't have the attention span... I do, however have the attention span to read The Hobbit and track down a bunch of the lore as it comes. #booksky #lotr #fantasy
Almost certainly inspired numerous DND novels and that one scene in Colour of Magic (or was it light fantastic?)

Finished my first book in a while, Saberhagen's First Book of Swords.
Love this world's magic system that just stops when swords are drawn, although it doesn't come into play much here.
200 page romp of magic swords getting mixed up, new gods from Empire of the East. Good slumpbuster #booksky
Something I've noticed on the other site: There are so few left wing people to argue with that the right is beginning to show cracks.
Revenge of the Sith is supposed to be fantastic, I enjoy Salvatore who wrote Attack of the Clones, so it made sense to start at the beginning
Tbh feels like Brooks got the script late and didn't get much of a chance to dress it up, but I've never read a movie adaptation. Maybe that's par for the course

Jar Jar feels like a real character, struggling with ADHD and rarely able to keep his hands to himself. His dialogue is much worse when you have to read it.
There's a bit more on QuiGonn's background, but not much. Obi Wan comes off as a real jerk until the very end.
FINALLY finished Phantom Menace novelization. Last three chapters took like three weeks... Would not recommend.
We get a bit more insight into Anakin's life on Tattooine, and I think the handmaiden decoy thread is executed better than in the movie. A lot more kid-romance between Ani and Padme.
Work has gotten stressful, so instead of my regular fantasy, I'm delving into nonfiction alongside comics
Inspired by the movie, some of my favorite panels from All Star #Superman, which inspired the movie

Then we unfortunately get the f-slur played for laughs, characters arguing over whether somebody's Chinese or Japanese, and I threw in the towel when the Jewish broom showed up.
So this book is bad. DNF bad.
It's book #5, and maybe some of the problematic stuff wasn't so bad in the 90s. But I'm not going to read four other books for one that's just okay.
Maybe it's a naming convention in the series, but the titular character is the antagonist. He gets a good 20 page intro
Looks like it's going to be Samurai Wizard! Spellpunk Tokyo murder mystery with sick cover art. 200 pages, should be a quick enough read.

I feel so seen.
What should I read next? #booksky #fantasy
1️⃣ Bane of the Black Sword by Michael Moorcock
2️⃣ Phantom Menace by Terry Brooks
3️⃣ Towers of Sunset by LE Modesitt Jr
4️⃣ The Samurai Wizard by Simon L Hawke

Looks pretty good, dramatic, optimistic, and that soundtrack 🔥
But it's sad that The Thing has to be this tragic figure instead of the fun loving Ben Grimm who admittedly does have his depressing moments.
The first ~20 chapters are a bit of a grind, but it picks up when we meet the Gray Wizard.
One problem Lerris faces is that he's frequently bored, and it's a first person narrative, and Modesitt is good, so you feel it.
really wish I wouldve read it when I was younger.

I think the big shortcoming here is the important events in Vimes's life just happening in the background. Pterry just doesn't seem to have that touch to balance the noir/detective story with his home life, but the Watch books are still high quality and this one is a masterpiece.
Finally finished this today, 9/10 would recommend.
It's "about" Vimes tumbling back in time, but it's really about the role of police during civil unrest and the importance of due process.
As always, Prachett touches on a bunch of other things.

Is there a list of trans that has them? I'm an alum/season ticket holder and would certainly send an email or call the athletic department encouraging them to switch.
Oh man, I really chose the best/worst time to read Night Watch #discworld #booksky #fantasy
As a Bearcat alum, he's not good at football either.
Guys am I dumb or just not British enough to have known about this

I specifically avoid Discworld when I'm in a groove for this reason lmao
Laughed out loud numerous times, glad we got to see somewhere outside of Ankh-Morpork, but it's just less detectiving than Guards Guards, Men at Arms, or Feet of Clay.
The next three are considered some of Discworld's best and I'm excited to get to them.

Cheery is obviously trans coded, but Prachett doesn't quite drive home his point with Dee and the Low King.
The description of Wolfgang's flag and his mother's characterization of dwarfs as subhuman point to him being a standin for Nazis, but he's portrayed as just being cruel for fun.
