i like this because it's kind of a novel way to get colors onto geometry to see how they look. i might experiment with digital hand painting next

this is a fun little prototyping workflow (it's actually a fair bit of work so maybe not *great* for prototyping):
- model a scene
- pencil trace the major edges/contours onto a piece of bristol
- add color with markers
- project a photo of that drawing back onto the 3D model

by adding a map range node in "stepped linear" mode to texture coordinates, any texture can be pixelated, dynamically!
