Tettigoniidae

Sprinkhanen zijn meestal onmogelijke modellen, want hun antennen en poten zijn veel te lang voor een fijne compositie; helemaal als ze nog jong zijn, zoals deze sabelsprinkhaan (Tettigoniidae) van #Saba. #ElkeDagEenInsect

FYI, this grant program is open to anyone communicating science.

It does not require that you went to school for science.

You could be a Ph.D. student, an artist, a community organizer, a teacher, or any other profession. As long as you are communicating science IRL in the US, you're eligible.

Pachycoris fabricii

Bugguide photo of a "Thief weevil" (Attelabidae: Pterocolus sp) by user Metrioptera. He is a jolly iridescent turquoise and sort of rectangular in shape, with an unusually wide stance.

let's all take a moment to consider the Thief Weevil and his outrageous pantaloons

Argonemertes dendyi, and the tip of a ball-point pen! This specimen is encapsulated in a transparent cocoon to prevent it from drying out. Argonemertes dendyi

Argonemertes dendyi, a terrestrial proboscis worm from Australia, is now found across Europe. These worms capture and envenomate prey by ejecting a web-like structure from their mouths. Currently, it is in a stasis-like state, having built a cocoon to prevent drying out. Fascinating creatures! 🤯

The discovery of a new “species” invariably leads to the discovery of new “species interactions” - new connections in the web of life. Here, the discovery of a new gall wasp also uncovered EIGHT new interactions with other insects - some likely new species as well. #biodiversity @ymilesz.bsky.social

New paper! Bird nests (Wood Warblers) are hubs of invertebrate biodiversity on forest floor, hosting more species/individuals than leaf litter. Probably due to heat & food detritus. Losing Wood Warblers = ecological networks lost. #ornithology

That's 21 billion insects, weighing the equivalent of 50–65 blue whales, flying overhead. 🤯
