Because something people forget is that while wage stagnation and cost of living raises are part of the equation, another part of it is that Millennials in their 30s and early 40s are still working positions that are normally filled by people in their 20s, with the wages to match.

And of course it means that we have people who should be retired making the big bucks, the late middle aged people who should be making that money being stuck in middle management, and the early middle aged people who should be building their nest eggs left in a holding pattern.

That leads to a significant glut of young people at the bottom of corporate ladders, and those further up starting and finishing later.

That causes a run on effect of corporate stagnation as those younger people with new ideas are left unheard for longer.

Boomers are also choosing to work in professional industries for far longer. The retirement age has been steadily increasing, so a middle-aged person may have to wait an extra decade to fill a role vacated by a recent retiree.

Now Gen Y reaching middle age can't afford their own homes and their rapidly aging parents are either hanging on to the homes they own or diverting their cash into the age care industry. And since they're living longer lives it means inheritances come late in life or not at all.

Well, no. Traditionally elderly relatives would move in with their adult children around the time of their middle age when they are making the most money.

But because of the hoarding of wealth and assets by Boomers the situation has been reversed.
